A Word from the Office

As some of you know, we have been using a new software for counting the Sunday offering, a program called Realm. In the next couple of weeks, you should be receiving an invitation to create a profile.

Our hopes are that by creating a profile, Fr. Frank will be able to message each of us more efficiently, as well as create groups and send invitations for events at St. Matthew's. This is supposed to help us streamline our communication, as well as create an updated church directory.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! If you do not receive an invitation by the first week of October, please let the office know.

POWER OF NEW to begin at St. Matthew’s Episcopal

St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 8320 East 10th Street in Indianapolis will host A. Paul Johnson’s creativity workshop THE POWER OF NEW on 4 Saturday mornings this coming September.

Previously given locally at Northwood Christian Church, and the ReSet Center on a grant from the Indianapolis Arts Council, the program takes participants through an array of games, exercises, team builders, and communication re-thinking to assist with setting new ideas into motion. The seminar will run from 10am-noon beginning Saturday September 9th and continue same time, same place on September 15, 22, & 29. Dr. Johnson has given this program in various forms for over 30 years for not only artists and arts organizations, but for hospital staff retreats, science centers, broadcasting groups, Elder Hostels, teacher recertification classes, and developer conferences for Pacific College of Costa Rica.

There is a $100.00 tuition for the program to cover supplies and a workbook and reservations or information can be had from Brandon Furlough at Miclos Unlimited, LLC. Mr. Furlough also has information on student, senior citizen, and St. Matthew’s community 20% discounts, and full or partial scholarships if required. Reservations and pre-registering are strongly recommended. This program has been given across a wide spectrum of ages and backgrounds and diversity serves the progress well. Suggested starting age is 10 and many seniors have refined retirement goals and second careers initiated by work in Johnson’s creativity programs.

Techniques developed through these creative activities have been key to

Johnson’s career as a composer and music director. He has won awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, Arts Midwest, the Florida Arts Council, and the National Institute for Music Theatre at the Kennedy Center. His recorded concert music receives frequent broadcasts and he has been performed and recorded by major ensembles Prague Symphony Orchestra, Sofia Philharmonic, Warsaw National Philharmonic, the Slovak Radio Orchestra, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and the Gainesville Chamber Orchestra. His theatre music has been part of productions at regional theatres across the country including out Indiana Repertory Theatre here in Indianapolis.

DIOCESAN HAPPENINGS
The Spirituality of Howard Thurman
September 16

The Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis Racial Justice and Education Team (RJET) invites everyone to a day-long workshop on the Spirituality of Howard Thurman. Rev. Thurman served as a spiritual advisor to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and many other leaders and activists of the civil rights movement in the 1960s.

This event is on September 16 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. EDT at St. Philip's, Indianapolis. The plenary speaker will be Thurman expert Martin Doblmeier, an American documentary filmmaker. We will watch his Emmy award winning Backs Against The Wall: The Howard Thurman Story. The day will include breakout sessions offered by Cassidy Hall MDiv and the Rev. Andrea Arsene on two contemporary theologies on prayer and social activism. Lunch is included and the workshop is free of charge to all. A liturgy will close out our day together.
