Early changes to the
Lord’s Prayer
History courses teach a little about the 16th century Protestant Reformation – Martin Luther is credited with kicking it off, and scripture was translated into the languages spoken by worshipers, to name just a couple of changes. And then of course there’s Henry VIII and those wives……
What history courses rarely tell us
is that in England changes had been going on for centuries! Way before King Henry or Martin Luther came on the scene, the church in the British Isles had a feisty independent streak. By the 800s scripture was being translated into a language “clearly understanded by the people.”
This Sunday Adult Forum look at early versions of the Lord’s Prayer. Joe Weaver and Donna Olsen will take us through some of the changes to our familiar and beloved Lord’s Prayer.
Come and have fun with this brief ride through our own history!
