The safety of the students, staff, and parents is always the highest priority at AVA. We continually conduct safety drills, review procedures, and conduct building safety checks to ensure that we are doing everything within reason to keep our school safe. Recently, during one of our walk-throughs, we found an area where we could improve our safety. The opening from the front office waiting area to the back office itself had a large, open window where someone could fairly easily jump over and gain access to the back office. Doing so would allow a person to bypass our locked doors and potentially have full access to the school. Over the break, we installed a secure window structure that eliminates the possibility of someone being able to access the back office area. We strive to balance safety with having an open and inviting atmosphere. While any window creates a barrier, we worked hard to find a product that was safe and still had an open feel. Please know that we want a welcoming atmosphere coupled with everything we can do to keep our kids, staff, and parents safe.

Homework Helpers Club
AVA is always striving to find new ways to support students as they move toward success. One new opportunity for students is Homework Helper Clubs.
Some nights, homework time can be a struggle. It could be that your child struggles with what to do first, how to break assignments into approachable steps, or perhaps the difficulty is with getting the materials from school to home. We’d like to help.
Starting the week of January 14th, we are making Homework Helper Clubs available to students.
Here are the details so you can consider if this opportunity is right for your child:
- What: Students (K-4 and 5-8) can seek help with their homework from teachers. (This is not one-on-one tutoring, but it is a structured, academic environment in which to focus on homework completion.)
- When: Mondays and Wednesdays, 4-5 PM (Students can go directly to Homework Helpers at all call.)
- Where: K-4 Room 103; 5-8 Room 300
- Who: Two teachers will facilitate each session. Student limit = 26 per session
- Cost: $10/session
Look for an email tomorrow with sign up details.

If you would like to add or remove emergency contacts/authorized people to pick up your children, please log into your parent portal and click on Demographics (on the left side of the screen). If you have more than one child in Douglas County Schools, you must select a student from the drop down on the top of the screen before you see the Demographics button. This must be done from a desktop or laptop (not a mobile device).

The Kids Heart Challenge fundraiser form was sent home with elementary students before Christmas break. This raises money for the American Heart Association and also Aspen View Academy PE. This fundraiser will go until the first week in February. We are asking that students
DO NOT return the form and money until February 4th. I have also reminded the students of this. If an envelope with money is handed in before February 4
th, it will be sent back home with your student. Thank you all so much for your support.
