As we approach the end of another fantastic school year, there is tangible excitement in the air. Field Day, Science Innovation Day, Coffeehouse Poetry, "The Great Escape", House Cup, 8th grade Continuation, and many other end-of-year celebrations are right around the corner.

As the days get longer, the weather gets warmer, and the calendar gets shorter, there is a natural sense of eager restlessness that even the best of us may feel. This is the time of year when I remind students and teachers about one of my favorite phrases: Finish Strong.

If you have been enjoying the Avalanche and Nuggets playoff games, then you know how important it is to play your best game right up to the last minute. The players who relax at the end often end up with an unhappy conclusion. They have to play their hardest right up to the buzzer.

This the the mindset I want everyone to embrace. Play your hardest right up to the end. Spend a few extra minutes reviewing that Quizlet before the test. Get every homework assignment in on time. Be on your best behavior in every class, raise your hand, and ask questions. Give it your all for these last few weeks so that you can end the year with pride and then enjoy a long, relaxing, and well-earned Summer Break.

As a school community let's all make the most of these remaining days, working hard and enjoying all the wonderful upcoming festivities. I look forward to wishing everyone a great summer in a couple of weeks, but until then, I will put forth my best effort and finish strong.

See you at the finish line!

Friday, May 17 at 5 pm – Come celebrate another fantastic year with all of your classmates, family, and faculty. We’ll be having fun at the AVA amphitheater, field, and playground. There is going to be music, crafts, games, and food (Colorado Pizza Company, Comforts of home). DON’T FORGET to bring a plain, light colored T-shirt, to collect signatures from everyone.
Looking for ways to help your student continue growing academically over the summer months?

We are offering tutoring at AVA over the summer for your student!

How it works:

Parents and teachers schedule tutoring sessions directly with one another by email, and parents pay the teacher directly.

  • $25 per student for 30 minutes
  • $50 per student for 60 minutes
  • $25 per student for 60 minutes for groups of 3 or more

2019 Field Day

When?
  • PreK-2nd Grade-Wednesday, May 22nd 8:45am-11:20am
  • 3rd-5th Grade-Tuesday, May 21st 9:00am-2:05pm

We would like all students to bring a sack lunch. The lunch schedules will not match up with their break times during Field Day, so this is the best option. We will have middle school students helping with stations but can always use parent volunteers to help and/or to donate items (please click here). We will have a concession stand/break station again this year. Students will be allowed to buy candy and drinks with money they bring from home. The candy sale is a great fundraiser which has helped to purchase new equipment for PE. A list of the items that we will be selling will be sent home with students before Field Day. Please talk to your students about what they can buy with the amount of money they have. Students do not need to wear their uniforms on the day they have Field Day. They can wear items from the Wolf Shack, past field day shirts, or appropriate athletic clothes (shorts must be fingertip length). We encourage students to bring sunscreen, a hat, a water bottle to carry from station to station, and athletic shoes.

For questions, please email Ms. Damm or Mrs. Alguire.
