What do your children love? What makes them squeal with delight? When do they get lost in an activity? What scenes come to mind when you consider their deep contentment? These questions offer a spectrum of answers that all point to moments, activities, and experiences that help you understand what your children value.
Life isn’t a constant Disney World flume ride of glee, and days filled with such activities are the exception. People are mostly formed through the mundane, through the habitual. Reading a book together right before bed or discussing the highs and lows of our day as we share a meal together can also be deeply satisfying. Through these simple rituals, we develop our values which in turn form our loves.
Aspen View Academy is partnering with you daily to hold up what we collectively value through curriculum, instruction, and relationship. We strive to intentionally design what students will value as a result of each unit, holding up the good, the true, and the beautiful. Our goal in habit building is to shape interpersonal (character) and intrapersonal (leadership) patterns of thought and action that build up the child and the community.
Let’s take some time in this very February season to consider what our children love. Much of the time their loves reflect our family/community values. When we find harmony between the two, it brings great joy! Sure, there are plenty of places to revise as we march toward maturity, but today make time to enjoy what your children love!
