One of the great features of Aspen View Academy is our focus on character development and our core values. Two of those values are Teamwork and Empowerment.

We have an exceptional staff and school program that guides our students to develop these values in and out of the classroom.

When students enter middle school, they are divided into one of four "Houses" based on Homeroom. As a House they have opportunities to compete together and cheer each other on. This includes events such as community service projects, fundraisers, athletic challenges, artistic competitions, and scholarly contests. It has been a joy to watch our students work with their Housemates (sometimes across grade levels) to create the most inventive door decoration, check off the most items on a scavenger hunt, or answer the most trivia questions. The House that works together wins together, and that House also celebrates together with our monthly House victory parties. These extra-curricular events encourage teamwork, build camaraderie, and make Aspen View Academy a school that balances academic rigor with youthful fun.

Our monthly House challenges are one, but not the only way, that we also focus on student empowerment. Students are empowered through events made possible by our incredibly supportive staff. Our weekly student-run recycling program (The Green Team) is overseen by Mrs. Waters’ “Compassion to Action” elective. Our Student Senate, directed by Ms. Spangler, has empowered students to organize dances, coordinate canned food drives, and run fundraisers (Candygrams were sold by student senators this week). Mrs. Castleberry transformed our 7th grade learners into junior archaeologists who unearthed a dig site, tracked and organized data, curated a museum night, and represented their work proudly to parents and other students. The growth in our students is not only represented in the high-profile events, but in the small acts. I see students advocating for themselves, stopping by my office or directly emailing me when they need help.

As a cooperative community of parents, teachers, and staff we can be proud of the personal growth our students demonstrate. Our younger elementary students should be excited about the clubs, electives, competitions, celebrations, and volunteer opportunities awaiting them in grades six through eight. Our middle school learners are part of a school that will push them academically, support them when needed, and continuously challenge them to work with others and become capable, empowered young adults.
