What is the SAC at AVA?

Did you ever realize just how many acronyms there are in education? There are too many to list, but I would like to focus on one very important one and one you may see a lot, but really do not know anything about it. I am referring to the AVA SAC. SAC stands for School Accountability Committee. The State of Colorado requires each school to have a School Accountability Committee (SAC) consisting of parents, teachers, and community members charged with advising administration on the improvement of the school. The SAC makes recommendations concerning the school’s Performance, Improvement, Priority Improvement, or Turnaround plan, and meets at least quarterly to discuss implementation of the school’s plan and other progress pertinent to the school’s accreditation contract with the Board of Education.

One important task that the SAC Committee is charged with is to administer the annual parent satisfaction survey. This survey allows AVA’s leadership team and governing board to seek and review input from our parents and make strategic decisions based on this feedback. It allows us to ensure that AVA remains true to our mission and vision and always make decisions which are in the best interest of our students.

The SAC will be conducting the Parent Satisfaction Survey this spring. This is a great opportunity to share what you are happy with and concerns you may have. The committee looks at all the data and makes recommendations to the AVA board and principal based on the information received. We will share more information about the survey in future newsletters. We hope you take this opportunity to provide thoughtful feedback for AVA.

We also hope that if you have questions or concerns about anything at AVA that you take the opportunity to reach out to the appropriate person in a timely manner and let that person have the chance to address your concerns or questions. There is a saying, “we don’t know what we don’t know” and that can be frustrating because we want to have open communication with students and parents; we value your opinions and feedback. The success of your child’s education must be a commitment to a partnership between school and home. Making sure your child receives an outstanding education in a safe and caring environment is why we are here. We are honored that you have trusted us with your children.

Announcements
Tomorrow is Spirit Wear Day

Students may wear any AVA shirt (shirt purchased from the Wolfshack, Landsharks, Fun Run, etc), but they MUST wear uniform bottoms.

There is no school for students on Friday, February 15th (professional development day) and on Monday, February 18th (Presidents Day). Enjoy the 4 day weekend.
We have had an uptick in parents dropping things off for their children lately and have been brainstorming ways to make sure that the children are connected to their things with the least amount of class disturbance. Grade level paras will swing by the office to check for items that need to be delivered before and after lunch. Please try to limit deliveries to your children to a minimum (forgotten homework, water bottles, etc.). Thank you!
Have a Carpool Change?

If you need to make a carpool change, please be sure to email your child's teacher with the subject line: CARPOOL CHANGE. Teachers check their email between 3-3:15 for any carpool changes. If possible, make sure to tell your kiddo before dropping them off in the morning as well.
Chili’s Spirit Night

Wednesday, February 20, from 11 am – 9 pm. Enjoy the night out with some fantastic food at Chili’s, 800 New Memphis Ct, Castle Rock. Raise funds for AVA and eat some of your favorite Tex-Mex dishes. No flyer required just mention AVA.

Thank you to everyone who was able to come to Rita’s for Spirit Night. With your help, the AVA PTO raised $200.

Thank you for your continued participation and support. A special thank you to Kristen Butler, Aubrey Debelle, and Amy Valentine for their help in planning the assembly!
