Administrative Address
Hello AVA Families,

The Community at AVA continues to AMAZE me! From getting behind the pay for dress down day, to supporting the Fun Run, to attending our inaugural AVA Casino Night – what an AWESOME Community we have! The AVA Community consists of students, parents and staff – we all support each other as well as the surrounding Castle Rock community.

Congratulations! With 1/3 of the 2018-2019 school year behind us, we are already thinking ahead to the 2019 school year, and as always, Community is at the top of our minds, specifically the AVA Community. The AVA PTO focuses on Fundraising, Events and Community, and without the AVA Community, there wouldn’t be fundraising or events. On behalf of the PTO and the school, I ask that you take a few minutes to decide what impact you would like to have on the AVA Community; here are a few volunteer opportunities that are available.

Additionally, the PTO is currently looking for volunteers for the following PTO positions:

  1. PTO Chair
  2. PTO Fundraising Chair
  3. Positions on sub-committees which includes specific events as well Staff Appreciation, Staff Luncheons, assisting with school assemblies, and Talent Show.

I strongly encourage each AVA family to find a way to get involved - whether it’s in the classroom volunteering, the lunchroom, carpool or as a PTO Officer or on a PTO sub-committee, volunteering provides parents with the opportunity to become an integral part of the AVA Community, foster new friendships, and make new connections…..AND the volunteer hours are amazing!! (who couldn’t use a few more volunteer hours?)

If you have ideas or suggestions on events & fundraising at AVA, please reach out to the PTO. We love new ideas!

In closing, the PTO meets the first Thursday of every month at 6:00 pm in the AVA Library. Our next regularly scheduled meeting will be January 3, 2019!

Thank you for being a part of the AVA Community,

Rachelle Nye
PTO Chair

Kids Heart Challenge

Kids Heart Challenge (formerly known as Jump Rope for Heart) encourages our students to live heart-healthy lives, share the message with family and friends, and provides an opportunity to support the American Heart Association, which works to fight our nation’s #1 and #5 killers, heart disease and stroke. The AHA invested 14.1 million dollars into 41 research projects last year in Colorado alone.

We are looking for several volunteers. Please click here if you are able to help. We need volunteers confirmed by Friday, December 7th. This is a great opportunity to get a lot of your volunteer hours complete.

Please contact Kaycee Damm @ [email protected] for more information/questions. Thank you so much for your consideration and help towards this wonderful service-learning project for our students!
AVA Robotics

Aspen View Academy has entered its second season in the First Lego League robotics competition. Over the last two months we had 8 students work to build an EV3 robot that could complete up to 15 challenges created by the First Lego League(FLL). They were also expected to complete a project based on social and physical challenges of traveling in space and to find a solution to the challenge that they chose. The teams were judged based on robot design, First Core Values, and missions completed.

This past Saturday AVA had two teams compete in this competition. One team consisted of three 5th graders, Cooper Dow, Reilly Butler, and Alexis Bodiker that finished in the top 30 out of 50 competitors of the competition.

The second team that competed was made up of four 7th graders that included Nick Madrid, Jonas Archibald, Magnus Sutton, and Jack Huish. This team finished 3rd in points with 96, 2nd in robot design and finished in the top 10 overall at the competition. For this, they will be competing in the FLL State Championships in Denver on December 15th.
