A Note From Ed Blackstone -

When the Dogwood is in bloom you know that Easter is near. This coming Sunday is Palm Sunday / Passion Sunday. In the United Methodist tradition there are alternate readings for whichever one is to be emphasized in the worship service. Of course, Palm Sunday is more pleasant with the waving of Palm Branches and flowering of the cross. There was nothing pleasant about the Passion of Jesus. His death was an ugly thing which is only good in light of the resurrection. It is important to remember the passion. It is a reminder that Jesus was not the champion of the status quo. Jesus was killed by those champions: empire and the religious establishment. He was killed precisely because he came preaching good news to the poor! If the gospel we preach is not good news to the poor, then it is probably not the gospel of Jesus. If the church is always the defender of the status quo then it may not be the church of Jesus Christ. In the Reformed Tradition of the Presbyterian Church there is a saying “Reformed and always reforming.” That is interpreted in many ways but I think at least it means that that the church is not the Rotary Club with a little Jesus talk thrown in. We are not the religious wing of the chamber of commerce. We must always be willing to take a hard look at our own lives life of our church.

When we flower the bare cross, we remember that out of death comes new life. New life does not come through political affiliation or profitable business practices, but through Christ. May you have a meaningful Palm / Passion Sunday.

A Letter from Camp Gilmont -

Dear St. Andrew Presbyterian Church,

Thanks to God’s provision and the generosity of donors like you, construction on the Spradlin Lodge and Welcome Center is progressing well and remains on schedule.

It has been a joy to see this vision take shape, and we invite you to view a brief 30-second video from the construction site below.  We are also excited to share that a ribbon-cutting celebration is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2026 at 4:00 PM, following our Battle of the Bags fundraiser earlier that day. We hope you will save the date and plan to join us for this momentous occasion. Additional details will be shared in the coming months.

Thank you for your continued support, prayers, and investment in Gilmont. Because of you, this remains a sacred place where lives are shaped, relationships are formed, and faith is nurtured.

If you have any questions, we would be glad to connect—please feel free to reach out at any time.

Blessings,

Rev. Kenny Rigoulot
