Whether advocating for museums, offering training and career services, or creating opportunities to connect, the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History, along with other organizations like VAM is proud to serve Virginia, Danville, Pittsylvania County and the greater museum community. DMFAH Board Committee Meetings in October
The Executive Committee Meeting: Thursday October 1, 5:30-7pm.
The Development Committee Meeting: Monday October 5, 5:30-7pm
 The Finance Committee Meeting: Tuesday October 6, 5:30-7pm
Pumpkin Carving! Reserve Your Pumpkin before they sell out!
On Saturday, October 24, twenty-five pumpkins will be available for carving from 10am-5pm on the front lawn of the DMFAH. If you would like to participate in this community event please reserve your pumpkin at [email protected] or call the museum at 434. 793.5644. Pumpkins will be lit around 6:30pm, right before the start of the last Ghosts and Gravestone tours - so bring your cameras as well!! Cost of one pumpkin is $10, but the pumpkin carving experience will last forever. This is a fun seasonal treat for families or groups of friends. Pumpkin carving tools will be made available.

Play croquet on the Museum Lawn and pick up your free copy of Evince to read all about the "new" Ghosts and Gravestone characters, and what is happening around Danville.

Set it up and play for two hours between 10am-5pm on Sunday afternoons. 
Enjoy fresh air, beautiful surroundings, and friendly conversation courtesy of the Danville Museum of Fine Arts & History, 975 Main Street.

Monuments meeting and Report for City Council
On Friday October 2, local historians Gary Grant, and Kendall Ratliffe (Danville Historical Society President) met with Elsabe Dixon (Museum ED) to discuss the two Confederate monuments on the Museum Campus. They will be preparing reports and recommendations for the next Danville City Council Meeting on Monuments. Next week we will be meeting with Sonja Ingram (Preservation Virginia) and Diane Barbour (President of the UDC). The Museum ED attended the Saturday gathering at the museum of the Anne Eliza John's Chapter.
Yoga on the Lawn
Yoga on the Lawn during the pandemic brings health and wellbeing to our community,

Free yoga on the lawn will continue through the month of October but please note that because of the cooler weather the start time has been changed. Yoga classes will be starting a little later on Saturdays. Set your yoga clocks for 10:30am. Thank you FIREFLY and Staff for this wonderful health and wellness opportunity.


Get Your Ghosts and Gravestone Tickets Today!
We are heading into winter soon but before we do there is Ghosts and Gravestones. This is our one annual tour event that raises the hair on the back of your neck.

Maintenance Work is starting on the DMFAH conservation fence.
The city started power-washing the Danville Museum of Fine Art and History's conservation fence this week in preparation of getting the fence repainted in the early fall.

This fence was gifted to the museum by the Garden Club of Virginia but maintenance of this fence is made possible this year by the Danville City and by the Kiwanis Club of Danville. Thank you for your support!

We are happy to announce the winners for the September Derby Day Hat Sweepstakes.

Thank you to all who participated in this fun online Derby Day event which allowed everybody to stay safely at home during the pandemic while still raising vital funds for the Museum so we can keep our doors open for research, exhibitions, internships, volunteer and community activities. 

First Place Winner for the Hat Sweepstakes is: Anne Sylves (10% of Funds Raised); Second Place Winner is Helen Erle (Derby Day Picnic Basket); Third Place Winner Judy Strauser (Derby Day Cake/ Mint Julep Activity Kit).

Featured artist of the Week
Join Jonathan Scollo as he sculpts clay into spectacular ceramic vessels in the Swanson Studio. This year we will be hosting virtual studio visits with regional artists for our ART ON THE LAWN EVENT. Artists will demonstrate their studio techniques and have the opportunity to show their unique and individual studio processes.
