New Council Appointments
During January, Mayor Weaver appointed Town Council members to their assigned committees or liaison roles for the duration of their term. Their respective roles are as follows:
  • Chris Widuch - Mayor pro tempore, Chair of Ways and Means, Liaison to SATAX (State Accommodations Tax) Advisory Committee and Liaison to the Kiawah Island Conservancy
  • Maryanne Connelly - Chair of Public Safety and Liaison to the Charleston Visitors Bureau
  • Klaus Said - Chair of Audit Committee
  • Daniel Pricket - Liaison to the Arts Council Board, Liaison to Planning Commission, and Liaison to the Board of Zoning & Appeals 
  • Mayor Weaver will serve as the liaison to the BCD (Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester) Council of Governments, Liaison to off Island Transportation Initiatives and Proxy to the Charleston Area Transportation Study
Increased Law Enforcement Coverage Coming

Beginning in March, the Charleston County Sherriff's Office (CCSO) will permanently assign four full time, experienced deputies to Kiawah. These deputies will cover the first shift, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. They will be fully equipped and in marked vehicles. The Town will compensate the CCSO for this added level of coverage, just as the Town has done in the past with supplemental deputies. Read more on the background of this change here
SEWE Tickets Available

Stop by the Kiawah Visitors Center (4475 Betsy Kerrison Pkwy) to get your tickets to the   Southeastern Wildlife Exposition (SEWE). This three-day showcase of everything we love about wildlife and nature is an event that is worth the trip downtown! For more information call 843-768-5116.   
2019 Tide Tables  

The 2019 Tide Tables are now available at the Municipal Center during regular business hours (M-F 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) Tide Tables are provided free of charge by SCDHEC's Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management (OCRM).
Beachwalker County Park Closed Through April 

Beachwalker County Park will be closed to all visitors through early April while the park undergoes extensive construction. 
Scope of Work:
  • Replacement of boardwalk from the parking lot to the existing showers and replacement of showers and changing rooms
  • New ADA-compliant parking spaces and paved access pathway to the boardwalk
  • Replacement of the gatehouse and traffic improvements to the entry of the park
Brown Trash & Hazardous Waste Collection | Friday, March 1
All brown trash must be placed on the curb by 7:00 a.m. to ensure collection. Hazardous Waste cannot be placed at the curb and must be brought to the Municipal Center (4475 Betsy Kerrison Pkwy.) for disposal between 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. For larger items such as refrigerators, washers, dryers, etc., please call Carolina Waste at 843-576-1100 to schedule a pickup at an additional cost.  Not sure what classifies? click here
