We are a community of faith that welcomes and values all people.

We commit to follow Christ, serve others, grow in faith and

transform the world by sharing God’s love.

We are SO Blessed!!

  • We have spent nearly eight years with Rev. Karen and her ministry as our Rector.
  • We are members of a healthy and faithful parish heading into our interim period and eventual search for a new Rector.
  • The Vestry has discerned and called committee members to research and compose our Parish Profile, which will represent us to clergy who are discerning a move. We are so grateful they agreed to serve. They will be commissioned Sunday, June 15. The members—who will be joined by one vestry member—are: Cathy Davies, Rebecca Ditmore, Peggy Eichenberger, Steve Holland, Pat Todd, Roger Vielbig, Lauren Walsh
  • The Reverend Dianne Andrews has answered the call to serve as our Interim Rector, to shepherd us during the transition process. She comes equipped with previous experience in successfully guiding parishes through similar transitions after she retired from serving as Rector at St. Paul’s in Port Townsend.
  • We have found supply clergy who will serve on the four gap Sundays prior to our Interim Rector joining us.
  • The Senior Warden has been working with both Revs Karen and Dianne to fully grasp the administrative responsibilities she will perform, as required by the canons.
  • Just last week, we extended our outreach when we began an initiative to support Helpline House, our island’s primary social service & food bank program, in their capital campaign for a desperately-needed new building.
  • We worship in a holy and historic chapel, surrounded by the natural beauty of our grounds.
  • We have a full complement of awesome staff to support our ministry in the world.
  • Equally important to our mission, we have a full complement of awesome lay leaders for all our committees and ministries.
  • Most important of all, we have an energetic, committed, engaged, loving, worshipping congregation. Pure joy!

Thanks be to God!! You’ll find more information about many of these topics here in the newsletter. Of note:

  • The two remaining farewell events are the Potluck Feast this Friday evening (tonight! June 6, 6 p.m., St. Barnabas Parish Hall), and services on Pentecost Sunday (this Sunday! June 8), our last opportunity to celebrate the Eucharist with Rev. Karen before her retirement. Come share the joy and love!

Please join the Wardens and Vestry as we spend this time focused on the first step in our transition: celebrating the good work that Rev. Karen has done among us, so that she can retire confident that her extraordinary service has grown a healthy and grateful parish.

Faithfully Submitted,

Interim Rector Announcement

Exciting news!

Your Vestry is very excited to announce that Rev. Dianne P. Andrews of Port Townsend has accepted the call to the position of Interim Rector at St. Barnabas! We are thrilled to have her join us in ministry, worship, and service. Having recently retired as Rector of St. Paul’s in Port Townsend, she is uniquely qualified to attend to us during the bittersweet transition period that we are entering.

The vestry conducted an in person interview with Rev. Dianne and was impressed with her caring nature, her collaborative spirit in a diverse world, and her depth of experience as a minister to God’s people. She is committed to deepening our knowledge of God’s love known in Christ and offering her experience to support us as we engage in the moment that is upon us. Her priorities as interim will be to provide continuity in the life of the parish, celebrate what was, and find meaning and new life in the time between rectors. She will encourage us to explore our identity and history in order to prepare for our future. We feel so blessed that she has been called by the Holy Spirit to St. Barnabas. Here is a link to a short biography.

Her first day with us will be July 16 and she will preach and preside at her first service on July 20. Please join us in making her feel welcome! She will be commuting from her home in Port Townsend but would like to find local accommodation so that she would be more accessible to the parish. If you have any knowledge of an ADU or similar accommodation on the island, please notify a member of the vestry.

For the Love of Water:

Re-membering the Importance of Every Little Drop

Tuesday, June 17th, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., St. Barnabas Parish Hall

The Bainbridge Island North Kitsap Interfaith Climate Circle invites you to our next Web of Life Gathering. Together, we’ll explore the significance of water in restoring Earth’s life-supporting climate. Water is key for releasing the Earth’s enormous regenerative power, contributing to a thriving climate. We’ll examine our relationship with water, while inspiring reverence, and explore what we can do right here at home to protect our water sources, both fresh and salty. A short, animated film—How Water Makes Climate—will catalyze discussion. For more info, contact Kathryn Lafond, kelafond@gmail.com or email climatecirclebinkifc@gmail.com.

2025 Bainbridge Island Pride Fest

St. Barnabas is excited to have a booth at the 2025 Bainbridge Island Pride Festival! BI Pride will be held on Saturday, June 21, from noon to 8 p.m., and we will have our booth set up until at least 4 p.m. (possibly later if things are still hoppin!). This year, we are partnering with Grace Episcopal to have a unified Episcopal presence at Pride, and we are all excited to spread the word about the inclusivity of our church with the BI community! We are looking for a few friends to volunteer at our booth, handing out swag and water, and to help spread God’s love to all! Volunteers working the booth are asked to serve in two hours shifts. We need at least two volunteers at the booth at all times, but the more the merrier! We will have festive buttons and stickers for volunteers and visitors alike, but feel free to BYOB—bring your own BLING!

We also need a few volunteers to help with set-up and tear-down. If you are willing to help in more than one slot, you are more than welcome to do so. Sign up today!

The Episcopal Diocese of Olympia—a network of 100 churches across Western Washington—marches in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community, celebrating God’s love for all. Grounded in our Baptismal Covenant, we commit to “respect the dignity of every human being” through action: building affordable housing, serving unhoused neighbors, and resettling hundreds of immigrant families annually.

Our churches welcome everyone—not just through our doors, but at our tables and behind our pulpits. Over half of our active clergy identify as women, BIPOC, and/or LGBTQIA+, reflecting our belief that the church thrives in diversity. Together, we strive to create a beloved community where all are cherished.
