PTAs and Schools Honored Nationally as Schools of Excellence
for Strong Family-School Partnerships
ALEXANDRIA, Va., (Aug. 1, 2023)—National PTA is pleased to honor 368 PTAs and schools from across the country and Department of Defense schools in Europe as 2022-2024 National PTA Schools of Excellence for building strong partnerships between families and their school that are enriching the educational experience and overall well-being for all students. National PTA is also pleased to recognize the following three top Schools of Excellence with its 2023 Phoebe Apperson Hearst Award—the highest honor presented by the association to celebrate effective family-school partnerships:
Phoebe Apperson Hearst Outstanding Family-School Partnership Award
Bells Ferry Elementary PTA (Marietta, Ga.)
Phoebe Apperson Hearst Family-School Partnership Award of Merit
Chaparral Elementary PTA (Albuquerque, N.M.)
Twin Echo Elementary PTA (Collinsville, Ill.)
“National PTA is thrilled to honor Bells Ferry Elementary PTA, Chaparral Elementary PTA, Twin Echo Elementary PTA and all of the 2022-2024 School of Excellence designees,” said Yvonne Johnson, president of National PTA. “Their work to strengthen their family-school partnership has created an environment where families feel welcomed, included and empowered to support their child’s success and where students feel safe, supported and ready to learn, which is more important than ever.”
National PTA’s School of Excellence program supports a year-long commitment to strengthen family-school partnerships. Throughout the year, PTAs and schools collect feedback from their school communities to create and implement plans of action to improve family engagement and make a difference for every child. During the process, PTAs and families become key partners in decision-making and school improvement efforts. The program opens the lines of communication and critical thinking within school communities to make data-drive decisions that yield positive, long-term results.
“There could not be a more urgent time to make sure schools and PTAs are reaching and engaging all families in ways that have a positive impact on all students’ success,” said Nathan R. Monell, CAE, National PTA executive director. “Our 2022-2024 National PTA School of Excellence designees and 2023 Phoebe Apperson Hearst Award honorees have demonstrated what over 40 years of research tells us—amazing things can be achieved when schools and families work together to accomplish a common goal.”
