November Spotlight

Thanks giving

The end of the harvest season offers us a moment of pause, to reflect on nature's bounty which we are dependent on each growing season. Many people have belonged to this land for many years, and it is this sustaining relationship with our lands, with Earth, we offer our deepest thanks. Sending all those who engage with our lands gratitude today and every day.

In celebration of Giving Tuesday (11/29), we invite you to honor your commitment to conservation with a gift to UVLT . All donations are 100% tax-deductible. Contributors receive UVLT’s newsletter, annual report, and announcements of outdoor activities and events. But the real benefit of supporting UVLT is the satisfaction of knowing that by helping to protect the Upper Valley’s natural beauty, you are shaping the landscape of the future.

Unable to make a financial commitment? There are many other ways to give! Consider volunteering, participating in events, and/or encourage those around you to get involved. It takes a village.

Firewood Assistance in NH

Over the River and to the Woods

For several years, UVLT has been delighted to partner with the Norwich Woodshed’s Wood Fuel Assistance Program, harvesting trees on various Vermont properties to assist Norwich residents as well as residents of other Upper Valley communities by providing firewood to be used for heating their homes during the winter months.

Last month, UVLT took steps to duplicate the Woodshed’s program and bring similar firewood assistance opportunities to NH. Due to strict exterior firewood quarantine guidelines in the state, the UVLT team headed to Up on the Hill in Charlestown, NH, to begin harvesting trees for the new program, hoping to officially launch and deliver to recipients in Fall 2023 (once harvested wood has dried sufficiently).

Thank You Ledyard National Bank

UVLT is pleased to announce a second gift from Ledyard National Bank and Ledyard Financial Advisors that will again directly support the Up on the Hill Food Pantry Garden in Charlestown, NH. Through their generosity, UVLT is able to continue its important work growing vegetables for the Claremont Soup Kitchen and Pantry.

UVLT’s Food Pantry Garden Program produces fruits and vegetables for distribution to hunger relief programs throughout the Upper Valley. In 2021, we grew more than 2.5 tons of food that provided 22,000 servings of healthy produce for people in need.

Lyme Pinnacle Solstice Gathering

Wednesday, December 21 @ 4 PM

Join us for a self-paced hike to the top of Lyme Pinnacle, where we will gather around a fire to enjoy shared company, conversation and celebrate the Winter Solstice, together marking the official start of Winter, and the return of increased daylight.

This event is open to all. UVLT staff will be present to help lead the way, and light the fire, but hikers are encouraged to move at their own pace. We will plan to meet at the Pinnacle Parking lot at 4pm. Please note the descent will be dark, so headlamps/flashlights are required. Other gear (trekking poles, micro spikes) may be useful depending on weather and ability.
