Greetings! Doctors Care is excited to say "Goodbye Cold! Hello Spring"!
As we enter the month of March, it seems a fitting time to share updates for 2019. Last year we celebrated Doctors Care's 30 th  Anniversary, and with that milestone, focused on the future sustainability of the organization. A rigorous strategic planning period and collaboration with financial experts led to establishing a major goal for the organization - increasing capacity in the clinic. The goal serves dual purposes - helping more individuals in need with access to health care, and providing greater financial stability for the organization through increased revenue.

We acted on the goal immediately by increasing the age limit in the clinic to 50 years , and expanded hours to provide more convenience for our patients. A comprehensive outreach plan will be launched later this month to broaden awareness of Doctors Care and the fact we provide quality, integrated health care and support services for low-income, Medicaid, uninsured and self-pay children, families and adults. We have established a bold goal to increase our patient visits, along with a robust plan to help achieve that goal.

The clinic is fully staffed and is accepting new Medicaid and uninsured patients for integrated clinical services including medical, dental and behavioral health care.

Open Enrollment 2018-19
For the sixth consecutive open enrollment period, Doctors Care team of staff and volunteer health coverage guides provided expert guidance and assistance in enrolling uninsured individuals in Medicaid or one of the Qualified Health Plans on the Connect for Health Colorado marketplace. Congratulations to the entire team for helping nearly 600 individuals with enrollment assistance during the 2018-19 Open Enrollment Period. As a reminder, Coverage assistance at Doctors Care continues throughout the year for those with life-changing incidents for marketplace plans and for those that qualify for Medicaid.
Volunteer Updates

Volunteerism plays a huge role in Doctors Care's ability to provide quality care and services to the medically-underserved in our community. We are privileged to have a large number of talented individuals willing to share their expertise by volunteering in all areas of the organization.  A recent addition to our volunteer force is Dr. John Pierce, a retired Internal Medicine doctor. Dr. Pierce has a long history of volunteerism including Boy Scouts of America, American College of Physicians, Big Brothers Big Sister and others. As a new volunteer clinician at Doctors Care, he extends that reach to providing further service to the community by being a valuable asset in treating our older population patients in the clinic.

New Faces

Alisa Steffen, 
Development and Marketing Manager

As a Wisconsin native, Alisa received her BS from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has over 20 years work experience, which includes providing graphic design and marketing for a WI sewing company and health care marketing company. Alisa and her family moved to CO in 2014 and she continued work in the creative and marketing field in a Denver-area Government Software Company, and academics. She is excited to be back in health care marketing and part of the Doctors Care team, to help support its mission to increase access to affordable health care for the medically underserved.
New Clinic Eye Screener 

One of Doctors Care's volunteer pediatricians, Dr. Nancy Mitchell, utilizes the new Spot™ Vision Screener (provided by a generous donor) for the first time, with this little patient. The new equipment allows providers to test patients as early as 6 months old. This can help with early detection of optical issues, particularly in infants. Doctors Care is honored to receive donated resources and tools that enhance the quality care we provide to our patients.
Premium Sponsorship Program Update

The Premium Sponsorship Program is a donor-funded pilot program designed to improve access to care and coverage for underserved individuals and families who are at risk of being uninsured. The program covers qualified participants’ Silver Level Qualified Health Plan premium costs for up to one full plan year. In addition to assistance with their premiums, program participants are also offered Health Navigation services, a mandatory Health Insurance Literacy Workshop, and ongoing outreach and support from program staff and volunteers.
