We are looking forward to celebrating the
Eighth Annual Crow River Serve Day on Saturday, May 16!

It is never too early to start planning. We welcome new Steering Committee Members and invite you to join us!

We begin with monthly meetings in late January, meet more frequently beginning in March and build to weekly meetings in April and May. Meetings are made as accessible as possible with ‘drop-in’ on Monday afternoons at Greenrock Deli as it fits your schedule. We are flexible! Currently looking for someone to coordinate the “Hunger” area of the three needs we serve; this involves coordinating food drives and managing packing meals for Kids Against Hunger. If you share a love of gardening, there is a need to oversee planting and maintenance of adoptable garden plots at Our Father’s Lutheran Church in Rockford. “Health” is in need of a person to explore some new ideas. “Habitation” needs a person willing to recruit and and supervise the freshening of the mural painted on the side of ABC Printing on Bridge Street in Rockford.

At BANKWEST we're not only committed to serving all your financial needs but also helping you to recognize scams.  It is a goal of ours to keep you informed of the latest scams.

New Scam Alert.
Recently, we have received multiple reports of a new scam. In this scam, the scammer claims to pay an individual for use of their personal vehicle for advertising.

Here's How the Scam Works:
  • The scammer calls, texts, or emails and states that they will pay the individual for “wrapping” their vehicle with advertising for a certain company.
  • The scammer also promises to pay them additional amounts of money on a weekly or monthly basis.
  • Once the individual agrees to this, the scammer sends a money order or a cashier’s check to the individual.
  • After the check is deposited, the scammer requests that the individual send them a gift card to cover the cost of wrapping the vehicle.
  • The individual buys a gift card and sends the card information (number, expiration date) to the scammer.
  • The check is returned as fraudulent, and the full amount of the check is debited from the customer’s account.
  • The individual has lost all of the money used to purchase the gift card.

If someone wants you to pay them with a gift card, it’s a scam.

PLEASE SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

More Ways to Keep Yourself Safe from Scams :
  • Don’t give someone access to your computer that calls you and claims that they want to fix or update your computer.
  • Don’t pay anyone with gift cards. Gift cards cannot be tracked. If you buy a gift card and send it (or the information) to someone, those funds are unrecoverable.  If someone is asking for payment via a gift card, it is a scam.
  • Use a variety of passwords for different accounts, websites, etc.  Don’t use the same password for everything.
  • Use complex passwords. Example: 12 characters which include upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers and a symbol.
  • Be aware of Phishing. If possible, don’t click on links in your email. Instead, open a web browser and type the web address of the site that you are trying to reach.
  • If something doesn’t feel right or sounds too good to be true, it’s probably a scam.
  • If you are questioning the validity of a check you receive, or have concerns regarding a phone call, please don’t hesitate to talk to us about it.

A Final Note - Please remember that BANKWEST will never call you and ask for any personal information. We will never call you and ask for things such as: your social security number, your debit card info, your internet banking credentials. Please do not give your sensitive information out to unsolicited callers.
