State Scholarship Recipients

Congratulations to Kyndal R., the recipient of the Douglas F. and Linda Beech Educational Scholarship &
M. H Coe Memorial Scholarship.
Kyndal reflects on the way 4-H has impacted her life and prepared her for the future by sharing this -
"One of the greatest impacts has been the confidence I gained in public speaking and presentation skills. Participating in events and competitions pushed me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to express my ideas more effectively. Additionally, the hands-on learning experiences have ignited my passion for agriculture and environmental stewardship, influencing my future career aspirations. The friendships and networks I’ve built through 4-H provide a support system that I can rely on as I navigate new challenges in my career/college journey. Overall, my 4-H experience has laid a solid foundation for personal and professional growth, positioning me for success in my future endeavors."
| | | |
Congratulations to Allyson R., the recipient of the John L. Wilson Memorial 4-H Scholarship
Ally shares what her 4-H experiences have meant to her and how they have prepared her for the future by saying this -
"My 4-H journey has been a stepping stone of shaping me into the person I am today. I have grown so many skills like responsibility, curiosity, taking initiative, and mentoring others. Additionally, I have formed numerous friendships and connections. I have already seen how my 4-H experiences have impacted my future from my declared major of feed and pet food science through the management of my livestock. Furthermore, a few of the skills I have developed are goal setting, making the initiative to introduce myself to others, organization, problem solving and critical thinking. I have learned so many valuable skills through 4-H that I will take with me through the rest of my life inside and outside of my career."

Ronald McDonald House County Fundraiser
The Johnson County 4-H Council Officers have decided to hold a drive for hygiene items. These will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House in Kansas City. The Ronald McDonald House provides families a place to stay when a child needs treatment in a hospital that is far away from where they live. It helps families to stay close to their kids and relieves some of the stress that comes with not knowing where they will stay or what they will eat. One important thing that they provide is basic hygiene items. Because when families leave, it probably isn't their first thought to pack a toothbrush, but might still want to be able to brush their teeth. The Ronald McDonald House provides things like shampoo, toothpaste and a toothbrush, shaving cream, or deodorant for families, but they are mainly a donation-based organization, which means our donations are all the more important.
The specific items that we are looking for are travel size shampoo, conditioner, and deodorant. Please share about this collection drive with your clubs. Once you have collected items at your May and/or June meetings, you can either bring your collection to the County Council meeting on July 7th or to the Extension office.

| | Foods & Nutrition Project Displays at Fair | | |
In effort to keep the Foods & Nutrition project displays at the fair as engaging as possible, we are opting for a new display this year. The past two years, clubs have made posters with pictures of all their food entries. This letter from Chelsea King, our Nutrition, Food Safety, and Health Agent, explains all the details.
Here are a few highlights from the letter:
- Pictures of food entries will be displayed on two TV monitors (rotating display).
- As in the past, the kids’ tag with name and ribbon will be removed from their food sample and placed on a poster for their club. This will help showcase the ribbon placing for all the entries.
What do we need you to do (if you are entering the foods project):
- Take a photo of your youth with their food items, posters, or baskets that they make to be judged.
-
Email the photo(s) to Chelsea and be sure to include your full name, the name of the food item as it will be presented at judging, and your club.
- Please email the photos before judging day.
-
Read the letter for all the details.
