Coastal Bend Day of Giving was a Success....Thank you!!!
Coastal Bend Day of Giving 2019 was a wonderful success!! So much love flowing on November 12th as we raised funds to meet the $19,000 match.

With the help of MANY giving hearts we raised over $77,000 to benefit our programs, services, classes and clinics!

So thank you to everyone who took the time to make a donation and support our volunteer physicians, nurses, support staff and patients. Mission of Mercy excepts no State or Federal funding so without you, we could not do what we do.
Good News at Mission of Mercy...
Thank you to the LaVerne and Thomas Howell Foundation!
We are excited to share that Mission of Mercy has received a $50,000 grant from the LaVerne and Thomas Howell Foundation for new equipment for our Vision Clinic.

"This new equipment is important to the Vision Clinic and it will improve the quality of care for our patients," said Dr. Arnoldo Villarreal. Dr. Villarreal is the man behind the Vision Clinic and not only helped start it but volunteers weekly and sees patients. You can tell he has a real passion for vision care and the patients of Mission of Mercy.
A Patient's Story...
“Without Mission of Mercy, I would be totally blind because of my diabetes”.
Two years ago Mary Jane (pictured left with Nursing Director Lynette Navar) found out she was diabetic and scheduled an appointment with our mobile clinic in Sandia, Texas. She took her medication, participated in diabetes education classes, and ate healthier foods. Because of her efforts, her overall health and A1C improved significantly!

Mary Jane’s success was brief though. She began noticing that her vision was getting blurry and was unable to drive a vehicle.  She was worried and scheduled an appointment at our Vision Clinic. The ophthalmologist informed her that she had cataracts in both eyes due to her diabetes. Mary Jane was devastated to learn that it was not glasses that she needed, but eye surgery to save her sight.

Our medical team worked with various organizations including hospitals, doctors and Bausch and Lomb to ensure that she did not lose her sight. Through the generosity of many, Mary Jane received the much needed surgery, regained her precious vision and returned to her family and taking care of others.

Mary Jane now knows how important it is to maintain her diabetes both through medication, exercise and healthy eating.  “You never know how important and precious your sight is until you start to lose it, until there is something in your life that threatens to take away your independence,” says Mary Jane.  “All of the doctors, nurses and donors do so much for everyone who goes to Mission of Mercy. Without Mission of Mercy, I would have nowhere to go for help and by now I would be totally blind because of my illness. I am so grateful to all of the doctors and nurses who helped me.”

We at Mission of Mercy are thankful this holiday season for each and every one of our volunteers, staff and donors. We could not do what we do without you. Happy endings such as Mary Jane's would not be possible without the support and hard work of so many.

We hope you will join us in continuing to provide happy endings this holiday season and in the coming New Year!
