Fairfax Crews Respond to Impacts from Weekend Storms

Over the weekend, the Fairfax staff, including Police Department and Public Works crews teamed up to address critical situations involving a downed tree near Meernaa Avenue, and at another location on Scenic Road, a retaining wall gave way.

Clean Up After a Retaining Wall Gave Way on Scenic Ave

Police and Public Works crews’ swift response and resolution allowed for minimum disruptions, reopening access to the road before the end of Saturday evening.

Downed Tree and Power Lines

Late Sunday evening a large tree fell, taking down power lines down with it. Pacific Gas & Electric was dispatched to manage the knocked down power lines and work to restore power while Police and Public Works crews worked together through the night and Monday to clear the roadway.

100-Acre Fairfax Open Space Preservation Opportunity Update

Due diligence investigations of the property have gotten underway in cooperation with Marin Open Space Trust (MOST) and the Town of Fairfax. Discussions are continuing between Marin County and the Town about the ownership of the Wall property and management of the trails and open space. MOST will need a firm commitment by April 22 from the future owner to accept the property to continue with the campaign.

If the purchase is not completed, MOST will return the donors' contributions. To date pledges exceeding $1 million and donations of about $55,000 have been received.

On Saturday evening, the Fairfax Open Space Committee held a fundraiser to spread awareness about this opportunity. The fundraiser saw a huge turnout of over 150 attendees.

Since the formation of the Wall Property Council Subcomittee in late September, subcommittee members, Chance Cutrano and Barbara Coler, have been working with MOST to explore the acquisition of the Wall Property for open space.

Supporters can stay up to date and make donations or pledges on MOST's website.

Electric Landscape Equipment Rebates

As of January 1, 2024, the use of electric (either battery-operated or corded) or manual landscape equipment is required for residents, Town staff and contractors, and commercial landscapers. Gas- or diesel-powered tools are no longer allowed (save a few exceptions such as chainsaws with blades or blade attachments longer than 18 inches which are exempted).

Rebates are still available for both residents and landscapers for qualifying electric landscape equipment that is purchased from Fairfax Lumber & Hardware. Gas- or diesel-powered tools must be traded in to receive the rebate discount at the point of sale.

For more details about the ordinance and rebate program, please visit the Landscape Equipment webpage.

Residential Electrification Program

The Towns of Fairfax and San Anselmo have partnered with ReadySetReplace on a residential electrification pilot program that is being offered to homeowners interested in installing electric appliances.

By participating in the program, you can receive a free assessment to determine if your home is electric-ready and what gas appliances will make the most sense to replace first. When you’re ready to replace or upgrade, ReadySetReplace will connect you with qualified local contractors and help you receive rebates when installing electric appliances like heat pump space heaters, heat pump water heaters, and induction stoves.

Sign up for the program and visit the ReadySetReplace for more details about the program.

PG&E Increases Support for Low-Income Customers

Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is increasing its support for income-eligible households struggling with energy bills in 2024. They are contributing $55 million to the Dollar Energy Fund to expand the Relief for Energy Assistance through Community Help (REACH) program. This program offers bill credits to qualifying customers with unpaid balances to prevent service disconnections during crises.

Details on how to apply for this program can be found online, and additional funds will become available to a broader group of income-eligible customers later in the year, with more information to come.
