A public art display which would include a neon sign from a former Old Irving Park restaurant is expected to be installed on a traffic island at Milwaukee and Central later this year in the Gladstone Park business district.
The display is part of the citywide “Year of the Artist” initiative. The chamber has not been shown plans for the installation.
The sign is from the former Red Star Inn restaurant, 4179 W. Irving Park Road, which was demolished in 2015. At the time, Preservation Chicago and Ald. John Arena worked to secure the 80-year-old sign and have it stored.
Project artist Bernard Williams had been seeking local artifacts to include in the art display. A community survey taken last year by the alderman’s office showed that a public art display was desired for the Gladstone Park community.
