Economic Development
The owner of Community Food and Liquor, 5530 N. Milwaukee Ave., is planning to convert the convenience store into an upscale liquor store with a wide variety of craft beers and wines, similar to his shop in Downtown Norwood Park.
Community Food owner Nick Patel and his attorney Gregory Steadman recently met with representatives of the Gladstone Park Neighborhood Association and the Gladstone Park Chamber of Commerce. Both groups have issued support letters for the project.
Association vice president and chamber director John Garrido said that residents living near the store received a letter from Steadman stating that a special use from the Zoning Board of Appeals would be sought to allow for the liquor store and asked the association to look into the matter. Currently the store sells liquor, but revenue from alcohol sales must be incidental to non-alcoholic sales.
"They very much want to be a good neighbor and work with us," Garrido said at the association’s Jan. 30 meeting. "They have made some assurances to renovate the place and make it upscale."
Garrido said that Patel has agreed to remove a walk-up window next to the main entrance and to install new coolers and modern-looking signage, similar to the decor at his Norwood Park Wine and Spirits, 6056 N. Northwest Hwy.
Business of the Month
Congratulations Dan Gibbons of Wintrust Bank Gladstone Park.
There are several factors that distinguish us as a real community bank. We are locally run. Decisions are made by people who know you and care about your needs. As a result, you gain from our responsive service and true understanding of what this community needs. Through this understanding we can tailor products to meet the needs of local consumers.
Also, there is on-site control over all services, products, loan approvals, and interest rates. Because we’re locally managed, we can set our rates right here. We don’t have to get them approved by a corporate office somewhere else. And we don’t have the overhead that big banks do, so we can pass the savings on to you.
Deposits of the bank are invested back into the community in the form of business and residential loans. So in a way, you can help enhance your hometown just by being a part of community banking.
At Wintrust, we support the local community in order to make it a better place to live.
We have the resources of the big banks, paired with the best customer service. We’re never too busy to sit down with you and talk over a cup of coffee. So stop by and find out how great hometown banking can really be. You’ll be glad you did!
