Highlights and Achievements: 2025, a year that moved HBAWV Forward

The Home Builders Association of West Virginia proudly recognized Barbara Starkey of Starkey Soft Water as the 2025 HBAWV Associate of the Year, honoring her outstanding dedication, professionalism, and unwavering support of the home building industry. The award was presented by Joe Camp of 84Lumber, the 2024 Associate of the Year, symbolizing the continued tradition of leadership and service among HBAWV associates. Barbara’s commitment to excellence, member engagement, and industry partnership exemplifies the very best of what it means to be an HBAWV associate, making her a truly deserving recipient of this prestigious honor.

In the December 2025 issue of Construction in Focus, Jamie Burch facilitated an insightful conversation with NAHB President Kevin Roberts and State Representative Aaron Dickerson, exploring key industry issues, legislative priorities, and the future of construction in the region. The interview highlights collaborative leadership within the home-building community and advances in advocacy efforts that support builders, policymakers, and local economies. Their discussion offers valuable perspectives on workforce challenges, regulatory trends, and the importance of strong public-private partnerships in shaping a resilient construction sector.

Associate Spotlight:

Jeremiah Hawkins, SRS Branch Manager, Morgantown, WV, North Central WV HBA Member


Jeremiah represents SRS Building Products, which has been serving the region since April 4, 2025. SRS specializes in residential and commercial roofing, vinyl, metal, and composite siding, gutter materials, insulation, and soon Yellowwood treated lumber. While SRS was founded in McKinney, Texas, it now operates with more than 1,100 branches nationwide and services contractors across West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Ohio. Jeremiah is known for going above and beyond for his customers and is deeply dedicated to helping them grow their businesses through dependable materials, responsive service, and a strong partnership mindset.

Jeremiah joined the North Central West Virginia Home Builders Association to build meaningful relationships within the homebuilding industry and connect directly with contractors who rely on trusted suppliers. He and SRS have been very active and supportive at the local association level, regularly engaging with members and hosting meetings at their facility to showcase their products, well-organized warehouse, and exceptional staff. Having been involved with HBA through previous roles, Jeremiah understood the value of membership and wanted his new company to be fully engaged. Outside of work, Jeremiah is a passionate sports fan and a die-hard West Virginia University (Mountaineers) supporter. He resides in Morgantown, West Virginia, with his wife, Cara.

The Kent Pauley, Build Pac Trustee, current National Area Chair of NAHB, along with his wife Christine Pauley, Alt Trustee, Past President and current State Representative for Area 6 of NAHB, Melanie Thompson proudly presented an endorsement check from NAHB Build Pac to Congressman Riley Moore, recognizing his consistent understanding of and support for West Virginia’s home building industry. Riley’s commitment to pro-housing policies has been evident throughout his service at the state level and more especially in his role as Congressman in Washington, D.C., where he has remained a strong advocate for builders, housing affordability, and economic growth.

HBAWV Best of West Virginia 2025

The Home Builders Association of West Virginia proudly recognized outstanding champions of the housing industry during the presentation of the HBAWV Defender of Housing Awards, honoring Michael Haid, HBAWV Lobbyist, Delegate Charles Sheedy, and Senator Charlie Clements for their steadfast advocacy and leadership on behalf of West Virginia’s home building community. The awards were presented by Kent Pauley, recognizing each recipient’s commitment to policies that support affordable housing, responsible growth, and a strong construction industry. Their continued dedication to defending housing interests plays a vital role in strengthening communities and ensuring a sustainable future for homeowners and builders across the state.

The Northern Panhandle Home Builders Association proudly supported community youth leadership by donating funds to Jacob Baker, a Martins Ferry student and Boy Scout of Troop 14 , to assist with the construction of a new announcer’s stand for the Martins Ferry Track Team. This meaningful contribution helps Jacob complete his service project while providing a lasting improvement for local student-athletes, coaches, and spectators. The project reflects NPHBA’s continued commitment to investing in young leaders, strengthening community partnerships, and supporting projects that leave a positive, long-term impact on the Northern Panhandle.

The Northern Panhandle Home Builders Association proudly donated proceeds from its recent golf tournament to the Shriners Hospital for Children, continuing its commitment to giving back to the community. The funds raised during the tournament will help support the Shriners’ mission of providing specialized pediatric care to children and families in need. Association leaders emphasized that events like this reflect the heart of the home-building industry—bringing people together not only to build homes, but to strengthen and support the communities they serve.
