Headmaster Letter
Griffin Families,
I cannot believe we are coming to the end of March already! This year is flying by. Our Great Griffin Read-a-thon is in full swing, so I hope all our griffins have been reading nightly!

We will have several events and happenings going on through the end of the year so make sure to continue reading our newsletters.

Athletic Field Days will take place this Thursday for K-3rd grade and Friday the Houses will compete!

Please note: outside of volunteer positions there will be no parent spectators on field day.

We are looking for volunteers to support the Valero Texas Open, March 29th-April 4th. We have the opportunity to provide volunteers to support this event and in turn, Valero Texas Open will donate much-needed dollars to our Community Investment for our service! For additional information see this link.

Be sure to complete your family's re-enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year. This year re-enrollment is taking place solely online. Check your email for details from the Great Hearts Enrollment Team or click here to start your re-enrollment. The last day to reenroll is April 1.

Lastly, please remember there will be school on Monday, April 5 due to an inclement weather make-up day.

New leadership needs - 6th grade parents, come be a part of the junior high social committee which will serve to plan socials throughout the school year for these kids! First Planning meeting: TBD

Also, Teacher Appreciation Week is early May! Help us brainstorm ways to bring about a fun surprise each day during this week in May. Join us to brainstorm ideas at La Madeleine, on Wed, March 31st, 9:15

Used Uniform Drive - We collect gently used uniforms a couple weeks a year... and ONE IS COMING UP!!! Mar 29th-April1st These are sorted and prepared for a "Used Uniform Store"

GHNO Virtual Fiesta Fun Run!!! - Invite your neighbors, friends, and families to participate at a time and place of your choosing over Battle of the Flowers Weekend, April 23rd-25th. Registration proceeds benefit the Class of 2022.
Advocacy Corner
Texas Charter School Advocacy
  •  THANK YOU to all the parents who submitted online comments in support of HB1348, which prohibits cities and municipalities from discriminating against charter schools. This critical bill passed out of committee and is headed to the calendars committee, who will schedule it for a vote on the House floor in the coming weeks.
  •  The Texas Legislature has begun committee hearings in the coming weeks. It is crucial that we charter parents follow legislation that could impact our schools. Please sign up for parent advocacy updates through the Texas Public Charter School Association at the following link:  https://txcharterschools.org/join-tpcsas-team-of-advocates/
  • Did you know some people don’t want families to have school choice? They oppose charters, and they flex their political muscle. Let’s show our political representatives that we charter parents stand for school choice and quality education by signing TPCSA’s online petition here   Stand strong for charters schools, and SHARE, SHARE, SHARE this petition with friends, family, and neighbors.
Field Days
Lower School Athletic Field Days are coming up on March 25 and 26. This is a fun GHNO tradition where students wear their City-State or House colors and battle it out for the right to be called Champions!
 
All students must wear the t-shirt of their assigned City-State or House on the day of their competition. Shirts may be purchased new, borrowed from a friend, appropriated from a sibling, or re-purposed from Intramural competition.
 
Kinder-4th grades will participate on March 25. City-State shirt sold here
5th and 6th grades will participate on March 26. House shirt sold by PSO
 
All new shirts will be delivered to students the week of March 22.
 
If the purchase of a new shirt is a financial hardship, please contact Rebecca Danet for assistance.

News to Know
 
Attendance & Absences: 
B&M Students: Student attendance is tracked at 10 a.m. daily. For absences, please e-mail Rebecca Danet if your student will be out for the day.  When they return, please remember to bring a doctor's note if appropriate. If e-mail is not available, leave a message on the attendance line at 210-888-9483, option 1 for Lower School, then option 0 for the attendance line.
DL Students: Parents must report any full-day absence during Distance Learning. Please contact Rebecca Danet if your child is sick and cannot attend distance learning for that day.
