Bat Walk & Talk

Our popular Bat Talk & Walk did not disappoint. On July 13th we hosted a record number of participants at the Yolo Basin Foundation who thoroughly enjoyed the evening. After an interesting talk about bats (and more specifically our local Mexican Free Tail Bats) we caravanned to the flyout area. There we witnessed a spectacular site when thousands of bats took off at dusk for a night of foraging. We host this event yearly and if you’d like to attend next year be sure and keep your eyes peeled in the Spring of 2024 when we start advertising.

National Association of Counties (NACo)

Annual Conference

From July 21st-23rd I participated with others from counties across the country to help shape NACo's federal policy agenda. During the conference we shared proven practices and strengthened knowledge networks that help improve residents' lives and the efficiency of county government. This annual meeting meeting proves to be a very important tool of advocacy.

Northern Delta Tour with Delta Counties Coalition

and Metropolitan Water District

With representatives from the Delta Counties Coalition (DCC) and Metropolitan Water District (MWD) of Southern California, I toured the Northern Delta on July 28th. This tour showcased a greater familiarity with the area that would be impacted by a potential Delta Tunnel, an understanding of the local community/family farms that would be impacted, and an overall better understanding of the DCC's concerns over the Delta Conveyance Project.

Sacramento Weir Widening Project on Old River Road

Work has begun by the United States Army Corps of Engineers to widen the Sacramento Bypass. This project, which is estimated to end late 2026, will help with flood control during high flow events. Please be extra-cautious when driving Old River Road, follow speed limits posted, and take extra caution in constructions zones.
