Introducing Assistant Deputy, Jack Johnson

I’d like to welcome my new Assistant Deputy Jack Johnson. Jack was not only born and raised in West Sacramento, but he also graduated from River City High School and worked for the City for over 6 years in the Parks and Recreation and Community Development departments. He recently graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Political Science, specializing in American Politics and minoring in History. When you see him out and about, please say hello!

Westfield Village School Ribbon Cutting

On August 13th the Washington Unified School District celebrated the modernization of Westfield Village School with a ribbon-cutting that allowed students to see their school again for the first time in over a year. This project is all thanks to the voters of West Sacramento, who stood behind the Measure Z bond. Students got to see their classrooms, new basketball court, and playground and got a sneak peek of the STEM room where students will begin to learn problem-solving skills

Press Conference with Secretary Xavier Becerra in Clarksburg

On August 6th, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra held a press conference outside of our very own Clarksburg Public Library, where he spoke about efforts to protect farmworkers from the extreme heat and smoke. This summer has been intense for farmworkers and heat-related deaths doubled over the past few years. In July, the Department of Labor released a workplace heat standard that requires employers to allow rest breaks, water, and shade to those working in extreme heat. You can hear more about Secretary Becerra’s visit to Clarksburg here: Xavier Becerra meets with farmworkers in California community (youtube.com)

Roadwork in Clarksburg

While road construction can be temporarily disruptive (since it seems to be happening everywhere these days) and a bit messy, the result will be fantastic. Thanks to Yolo Public Works staff and the contractors for getting it done.

Broderick Boat Ramp Cleanup

On September 21st, over 50 volunteers gathered at the Broderick Boat Ramp to clean our riverfront. This event was hosted by Supervisor Vixie Sandy and I through the California Coastal Commission for their annual Waterways Cleanup which happens every year on the third Saturday of September. We were joined by the Rotary Club of West Sacramento, Interact Club of River City, Downtown Streets Team, Brown Issues Campaign, Yolo Youth Commission, Yolo County Probation, and many residents of our community.

Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation Press Conference

On August 22nd, at the future sight of the California Indian Heritage Center in West Sacramento, Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation and Kletsel Dehe Wintun Nation held a press conference urging the Department of the Interior to reject the Scotts Valley Casino Project. At this press conference, we voiced our concerns about the rushed Environmental Assessment that had been hidden from the public, and how this project would harm the environment, tribal sovereignty, and cultural homelands.

Clarksburg Branch Line Trail

The Clarksburg General Plan Advisory Committee held a public meeting on September 5th presenting the Clarksburg Branch Line Trail Extension project. This project would help extend the trail from West Sacramento to Clarksburg, thanks to SACOG’s $1.9 million grant. The Committee listened to community feedback and subsequently approved the contract for initial design work to begin this Fall.
