ONGOING SERIES AND LECTURES
Distinguished Lecture Series
Second Tuesday of each month
10:00-11:30AM

The OLLI Distinguished Lecture Series consists of ten lectures, held once per month on Tuesday mornings from September through June. The speakers are well-informed experts from town and gown, who share their specialized knowledge in an engaging manner. Each lecture is just the beginning; a stimulating question-and-answer period follows each session.
OLLI Out of Town
Friday afternoons

For a second year, the Out of Town with OLLI series will be virtual, which allows members to gain insight on a destination outside of Ann Arbor from the comfort of their home. These events are packed with insightful and educational information on the destination. This series consists of three dynamic programs on Friday afternoons.
Thursday Morning Lecture Series
Thursday mornings
10:00 - 11:30AM

There are five Thursday Morning Lecture Series each year. Each series offers six lectures on a unifying theme and a variety of speakers covering specific aspects of the theme. Learning continues in an active question-and-answer period following each lecture.
OLLI Reads!

OLLI Reads! is a shared experience where we read and discuss a common book. Members read a book at the same time, then come together for a presentation by the author, followed by a discussion.
Summer Lecture Series
Thursday mornings
10:00 - 11:30AM

The Summer Lecture Series is a condensed version of our Thursday Morning Lecture Series. It is a three-lecture package that provides an opportunity for our members to stay engaged during the summer.
Afternoons with OLLI

Afternoons with OLLI provides informal learning online that is specific to Michigan in the afternoon or early evening, which encourages members that are not yet retired to participate. It includes a wide variety of programming exploring Ann Arbor and Michigan. Programs feature current issues, local personalities, and engaging stories.
Futurescape of Medicine
Every other Tuesday | September 21 - November 16
10:00 - 11:30AM

The Futurescape of Medicine will be a five-lecture series. The goal of this lecture series is to provide educational insights about future developments in five different areas of medical care. These include:

  • healthcare financing
  • orthopaedic surgery and joint replacement options
  • the role of 3D printing in various types of surgery
  • early drug development in cancer care
  • new directions in depression research

Attention will be paid to current best practices, ethical implications of new technologies, promotion of consumer education and choices, and financial aspects of delivery in the context of value-based care. A lively discussion is anticipated for each lecture regarding the many issues raised by these trends and technologies.
FREE SOCIAL GROUPS FOR
OLLI MEMBERS

The OLLI Commons
The OLLI Commons is OLLI’s online meeting space available to OLLI members and the public. Each group is led by an OLLI facilitator. It consists of regularly scheduled informal gatherings that meet weekly, usually one-two times per month. Members can create a new group or join an existing one.

First Friday Happy Hour
First Friday of each month | 4:30 - 5:30PM
First Friday Happy Hour invites members to celebrate the end of the first week of a new month with their own beverage and any story they wish to share – each month there is a guest.

The Schmoozery
Every Wednesday | 1:00 - 2:00PM
A facilitated conversation in which participants share stories and reflections about aging, generations, hopes, and related thoughts in uncertain times.

The Lunch Bunch
Every Thursday | noon - 1:00PM
The Lunch Bunch will continue to focus on discussing and responding to specific OLLI lectures while also considering relevant supplemental material.

Coffee with Marta
First and third Tuesday of the month | 9:00 - 10:00AM
Coffee with Marta offers the opportunity to meet for coffee and share something you created or produced, describe an adventure, ask for help with a daily dilemma, or create new friendships.

OLLI Book Beat
Every fourth Tuesday | 4:00 - 5:00PM
Learn about new book releases (fiction and nonfiction) each month and share your favorite titles in these informal sessions with other
book lovers.

Poetry Reading with Ginny Bentz
Every fourth Friday | 7:00 - 8:00PM

OLLI's COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

The mission of the DEI Committee is to increase the diversity of OLLI membership and create an environment that welcomes all; increase awareness of racial, social, economic, educational and health disparities experienced by marginalized communities; encourage members self- education and self-reflection on issues related to implicit bias; and promote positive, transformational change leading to the eradication of racial and social injustice in ourselves, the OLLI membership, and the community-at-large.

We will do this through:

  • Spearheading efforts that lead to continuing awareness and education of our members on issues related to racial and social inequities through lectures, workshops, book discussions, and study groups, and encouraging members to initiate their own self-education on these issues
  • Working closely with other OLLI committees to ensure DEI principles are infused and integrated throughout the organization
  • Working as a bloc or as individuals to help influence formal and informal policies that can be implemented to effect positive change
  • Partnering with other organizations and committees with similar aims internal and external to U-M to collaborate on relevant programming and initiatives
  • Evaluating strategies wherever possible in order to identify positive and negative outcomes such that initiatives can either be continued or improved upon.
