Share the Plate: August 25
Clothes To Kids
The Share the Plate for the month of August, will be Clothes To Kids. It is back to school time in Florida. Many families cannot afford to purchase clothing for their children. Clothes to Kids works with low income or in crisis school-age children, free of charge. Each child must be eligible for free or reduced-price lunch through Pinellas or Hillsborough County Schools. In a crisis, or for your first visit, a referral from an approved agency by a social worker, caseworker teacher, administrator, counselor or place of worship is accepted. After making an appointment, each child shops for a week’s worth of new or quality used clothing in a Clothes To Kids store. Clothes To Kids envisions a community in which every school-age child has quality clothing so that he or she may attend school with the confidence and self-esteem needed to achieve academic success. Please donate generously. For more information go to https://clothestokids.org
Family Ministry
We Challenge YOU : Our RE students are trying to memorize the "children's version" of the Seven UU Principles. They will recite them in worship on September 15th. All children who participate will receive a reusable UUC water bottle! The children would like challenge the congregation to memorize the principles as well. Are you up to the challenge? Join us! Pick up a 7 Principles bookmark by the RE bulletin board in fellowship hour after worship.

Nursery News : Have you stopped by the nursery lately? Our nursery has had a "refresh" with new paint (covering up the 15-year-old paint) and new floors. We also cleaned out a lot of moldy and broken toys. We're on the lookout for a used wooden play kitchen and wooden play food to add to our nursery. Stop by sometime soon and take a look at our updated, family-friendly space! Better yet: volunteer to spend a Sunday morning in the nursery! See Julie Daysa for details ( dfm@uuc.org ).

After a 3-day week-end, the trial will resume Tuesday August 27. We still need a few more people for those last few days.  Get more info and sign up at the Social Justice table or contact Eileen Senn.
An Introduction to Race Amity
7 - 9 pm Thursday, September 26, Social Hall
Did you know that there are important examples throughout U.S. history of collaboration and friendship between races, counter to the traditions of white supremacy, prejudice, racism? Join us for a participatory Social Justice Evening Issues Workshop to discuss the other American tradition, race amity, i.e., collaboration and friendship between races. We will watch a 52-minute documentary film,  An American Story: Race Amity, The Other Tradition.   The writers and producers of the film were inspired by the teachings of the Baha'i Faith, but the film is relevant for those from varied faith traditions. This thought-provoking film highlights experiences in U.S. history when those of different races worked effectively together for change. The movie will be followed by a structured discussion of the topic and its application in our own community. This film is being shown in a number of venues as part of the work of advocates for race amity in Pinellas County from a variety of races and faith traditions, including some from the UUC Black Lives Matter Committee. They work to   increase understanding, caring, friendship and collaboration between races and, therefore, to reduce racism, prejudice, structural racism, and white supremacy. Contact   Susan Allen sallen915@aol.com  with any questions
