"Kim & I are thrilled to have completed our Third Annual Food Drive for Feed the Need in Durham! Having delivered over 1,500 empty grocery bags to residents' porches, we were delighted to pick up 512 bags full - equivalent to 2,265 lbs!! This is nearly double our 2017 total when we collected 1,142 lbs. and 1,492 lbs. in 2018 for a grand total to date of 4,899 lbs!! We have been overwhelmed with the response from our community, and couldn't be more proud to live, work and raise our children in and around Clarington. Being involved in helping our community speaks to both of us and our annual food drive has become something our entire families are extremely passionate about. We recognize the stress that is involved in raising a family, and believe that no one should feel the uncertainty of where their next meal will come from. As a partner, Feed the Need in Durham made absolute sense to us as they reach out to so many organizations throughout Durham region, employ incredible staff and their amazing volunteers are dedicated to helping change people's lives!!"
FTND recently welcomed Margo Smith to our small but mighty team! Margo wears many hats and supports all aspects of the operations including administration, outreach and communications. We thank Margo for truly being “all in” and for all her help and hard work, especially on the newsletter!
Andy Turcotte
From supporter to volunteer to monthly donor, Andy came to us upon a referral from daughter-in-law Kim, following their 2 nd Annual Community Food Drive. Andy, recently retired from OPG and not one to sit still, jumped in feet first and has wholeheartedly embraced the FTND operation and mission. From driver, to food sorter, to order picker, to group volunteer leader, Andy loves to help out wherever he is needed. After only a short time volunteering with FTND, Andy signed up as a monthly donor and has become a strong advocate for our cause out in the community. We are so thankful for the amazing family of volunteers that bless our operations each and every week!
It was an emotional day when our long time delivery truck was taken out of commission. This vehicle enabled our dedicated volunteers to clock tens of thousands of miles throughout Durham Region and beyond, collecting and delivering food to those who need it most in our community.
