Silly for Sally Day!
Let’s be silly for Ms. Sally!

Ms. Pettersen takes such good care of us, let’s take care of her!

Dress Silly to make Sally smile! We will be collecting donations for her and her family to support them through this challenging time.

Ava Stout--Principal of the Day!
On Tuesday, we welcomed Ava Stout as Principal for the Day at Steck Elementary School. Fifth grade Ava has wanted this experience as long as she can remember. She was certainly up to the task! Principal Stout began the day with announcements for the school and quickly jumped into her new job as leader by visiting and working in most of the classrooms and assisting students and teachers in their many tasks of the day. She worked tirelessly and made every moment count. Ava also led the school in a fire drill making sure every Steck Star was safe. Thank you Principal Stout for all you did. All of the staff and students appreciated your committment!
Steck Families:

Please remember to take the Family Satisfaction Survey. Our goal is 100% participation this year. Currently, only 13% of Steck Families have taken the survey. Please see below for directions to access your confidential survey.

This important survey is an opportunity for families in Denver Public Schools to reflect on their experiences with DPS.

How do you take the survey?

  • Login to Parent Portal (you will find survey instructions and links in the upper right hand corner of your homepage.)

  • After taking the survey, click submit and it is as easy as that!
A huge shout-out to Ellie Sisman and her family for setting up Food Allergy Awareness Week at Steck. Ellie and her son David ( pictured above with Governor Jared Polis ) were able to attend the official signing of the Proclamation of Food Allergy Awareness Week for Colorado.

Thanks Ellie for all the donated books, decorations, and other items for classrooms on food allergy awareness! And many thanks for helping us all become more aware of the magnitude of this invisible disability.
Unfortunately, our students have been hit hard this spring with upper respiratory infections and a nasty stomach bug. Our school nurse believes we've had such a high rate of illness because sick students are coming back to school too soon.

Here's a reminder of Steck's policy on illness:

Students with diarrhea, vomiting, wheezing, or with a fever above 100.4 will be sent home. In order to return to school students must:
-be vomit-free for 24 hours without the use of medication
-be fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication
-be diarrhea-free for 24 hours without the use of medication

We acknowledge that it can be extremely difficult to take time off from work to care for a sick child, but we encourage you to have a back up plan in place in case of sudden illness.

Feel free to reach out to our Registered Nurse, Jo Fontana, with any questions or concerns. She can be reached at [email protected] , and 720-423-9509.

Thank you for your help in keeping our school healthy!

Students at Steck Elementary School will have 9 late start days for the 2019-2020 school year. These late starts will be used for important Professional Learning time for teachers and staff. School will begin 2 hours and 20 minutes later each late start day at 10:30 am. This will be a great opportunity for parents to schedule dental/medical appointments throughout the year which won't conflict with school hours!

Mark these late start dates on your calendars:
