In this week's E-Herald edition:

  • Scripture for this upcoming Sunday
  • Study, Prayer, and Open Discussion on Sanctuary
  • Life and Death, an educational series for October
  • Upcoming Events

Jesus tells a parable in which the poor one is "lifted up" and the rich one is "sent away empty." Jesus makes it clear that this ethic of merciful reversal is not new but is as old as Moses and the prophets.

Scripture for this Sunday
The Sanctuary Discussion extended!
Each of the last two weeks 40 adults have joined in the discussion and discernment concerning the ELCA's designation of a Sanctuary Denomination. We have learned and practiced techniques from the book Crucial Conversations and have dove into Scripture.

This week we will take a look at the Lutheran Confessions and discuss what we have learned.

A fourth week has been added to talk about the ELCA, how something like this came to the Churchwide Assembly floor, and what, if any, implications this has for this congregation, AdventELC.
If you have not yet attended any sessions and would like to start attending, please know you are welcome.

To catch up please see all of Pastor Layne's presentations and handouts on our website.
Life & Death: an Educational Series
Jesus said: “I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:3

In the first days following a loved one’s death, the family makes an average of 200 decisions. During such an emotional, stressful and demanding time, plans that have been made earlier lighten the load after death. If you’ve not made advance plans, this series will be helpful to you as you make arrangements for end of life care, services and burial of your loved one.

No Registration Needed.

We're coming
Blessing of the Animals
Come one come all for an afternoon of praise, prayers and pets!

All creatures great and small are welcome to a wonderful, worshipful creation celebration outside in the grass on Sunday, October 6 from 4-5pm behind AdventELC's parking lot. After the short worship service a pastor will walk around and personally ask for God’s blessings and favor upon your animals!

We do ask that you use your good judgement on whether or not your animal will do well in an environment filled with other animals. If you don't think your pet will do well, please come anyway! Perhaps bring a picture of your pet from your phone and the pastor will pray for that pet then and there, trusting that God knows where your pet is ;)

Pet food donations will be collected and will go straight to Lutheran Social Services Food Pantries to help people care for their furry and feathery friends.

Rice Bowls
Sunday School Offering
Help the Sunday School stomp out hunger. Starting Sunday, October 6, each Sunday School student will get a rice bowl bank. The students and their families are asked to put any spare change in the rice bowl bank. On November 3, All Saint's Sunday, we will collect the bowls and see how much money we have collected to feed the hungry.

Rice bowls feed over 1775 kids in countries all over the world. With the money that is collected, over 19 million mills are provided. The money that is collected will be sent to various countries so they can buy fresh food locally, supporting either own communities and businesses.
