Deanna Sanchez’s Journey with ANEW
Meet Deanna Sanchez, a determined and passionate ANEW graduate whose story is a shining example of resilience, ambition, and the power of opportunity.
Deanna first learned about ANEW through PSEJATC (Puget Sound Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee) after applying and interviewing for an apprenticeship program. While she wasn’t selected at the time, she was encouraged to explore additional training options to strengthen her candidacy. That’s when she discovered ANEW — and the decision changed everything.
“I had interest in ANEW from the start,” Deanna shares. “I was never aware of a program like it and was excited about it. It was a hard decision to go at first because I knew it would be difficult not working full-time, but knowing that it was a free program, I knew I couldn't pass up the opportunity.”
Through ANEW’s pre-apprenticeship training, Deanna gained foundational skills and confidence, fueling her passion for the trades — especially within the electrical and elevator industries. Her ultimate goal is to secure an apprenticeship and build a long-term career in the field.
Deanna is currently expanding her skillset through Sphere Solar, where she’s learning about photovoltaic components, solar installations, and electricity fundamentals. She's also honing her resume and interview skills to prepare for opportunities in the growing clean energy sector.
Excitingly, Deanna recently interviewed with Tacoma Public Utilities (TPU) for an Electrical Trainee position — a role that would place her alongside linemen, wiremen, and meter & relay technicians, providing invaluable hands-on experience.
“The interview went really well,” Deanna says. “It was a panel interview, and I completed the physical tests. The final step is just the physical ability requirements. I’m excited and hopeful!”
We are incredibly proud of Deanna’s dedication and drive. She is well on her way to building a successful future in the skilled trades, and we can’t wait to see where her journey leads next.
