MESSAGE FROM THE RECTOR

This Sunday is one of those beautiful days when the church feels full—full of activity, full of joy, full of meaning.

It’s Youth Sunday, which means our young people will be leading us in worship—reading the lessons, offering prayers, and even preaching. We’ll also take time to recognize our graduates, celebrating their accomplishments and the new chapters ahead of them. And because it’s Father’s Day, we’ll offer a prayer of blessing for all those who serve as fathers and father-figures in our lives.

And in the midst of all that, this Sunday we are also recognizing Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed.

Juneteenth is often called our country’s “Second Independence Day,” and it carries deep spiritual resonance. It’s a celebration of freedom long denied and painfully delayed. It’s a reminder that liberation is not only a political or historical concept—it is a holy one. Our faith tells us that God is always on the side of the oppressed, that God’s justice may be slow but it is sure, and that the work of truth-telling and repair is sacred work.

In our liturgy this Sunday, you’ll notice special music and prayers chosen to reflect this theme. We’re not just remembering a historical event, but we are grounding ourselves in the Gospel truth that freedom is God's dream for every person.

So yes, this Sunday is full. And that's a good thing. Because it reminds us that the church is not just a place where we come to hear ancient words. It's a place where the Spirit moves in fresh and real ways, through young voices, through communal prayers, through honest storytelling, and through the continual work of becoming more faithful and free.

P.S. On Wednesday, June 18, Spence’s Tree Service will be on-site from 8:00 a.m. until dusk to prune the seven trees along the asphalt driveway and the one near the parish hall entrance. During this time, all vehicle traffic will be blocked from the south to north entrances for safety reasons. Please plan to park in the lower parking lot if you’re coming to the church that day.

Congratulations to our parishioners' graduates! We're beaming with pride as we celebrate this milestone achievement. Whether they're moving on to new adventures or pursuing further education, we wish them all the best for a bright and successful future. Cheers to our graduates!

Mary Flora received her Master of Arts in Music Education from the University of Saint Paul, Minnesota. Mary has taught music in the state of Maryland for 36 years-- the past 20 years at Windy Hill Elementary.

Katlin Bagdovitz received her Master's degree in Information Technology and School Library Media from Towson University. Katlin teaches 1st grade at Sunderland Elementary School.

William Patrick Schatz graduated from Salisbury University with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and a Minor in Conflict Resolution and Analysis.

William Muldowney graduated from Huntingtown High School and will be attending the University of Maine at Machias, Maine. He plans to major in Outdoor Recreation and Leadership. Will is interested in being a Game Warden in Maine. At Huntingtown High School, Will was very involved in the Civil Air Patrol in Calvert County. He is a Chief Master Sargent and has spent years volunteering in CAP events. Will flies gliders and planes, and he received a graduation cord for successfully completing " Pathway to Engineering" at HHS.

August James Heim (Julie Schardt's grandson) just graduated from Washington Latin Public Charter School in Washington, D.C. He plans to go to Trinity College in Dublin and will major in English and History.

Chelsea Taylor Colbert graduated with honors, Cum Laude, from Bishop McNamara High School at a Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 23, 2025. Chelsea was a part of the String Orchestra throughout all four years of high school. Her other activities included varsity volleyball, outdoor track and field, serving as President of the Pre-Med Club, Student Ambassador, and Women’s Empowerment Club. She was also a member of the following honor societies: the National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Chelsea will attend Temple University in the fall, and she plans to major in nursing. Chelsea aspires to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in the future. She is the granddaughter of Adriane Hope Sayles and Nathaniel Pope, Jr.

Adam Alonzo Foster-Baird (Deb Watson's great-nephew) graduated from Temple University's School of Business with a Bachelor's Degree in Business.

Courtney Girasole (our Sunday Nursery attendant for over two years) graduated from Northern High School and will be attending Salisbury University in the fall.

Summer Formation Series: The Gospel of Luke

Last year, we spent time building confidence in how to approach Scripture—exploring where it comes from, how it’s shaped, and why it matters. Now, we’re ready to open the pages and dive in.

This summer, we’ll journey through the Gospel of Luke in an 8-week series shaped by Scripture, The Bible Project videos, and rich conversation. Each week centers on a theme—radical love, healing, community, hospitality, and more—that invites us into the story and shows us how to live it.

Whether you’re new to Scripture or just eager to explore it in a fresh way, this class is for you. No homework, no pressure—just open hearts, curious minds, and good news.

All parish women are welcome to join us in our mission to serve the parish and community. Whether you can attend our monthly meetings (held on the third Saturday of the month at 9 a.m. in the parish hall) or not, we invite you to get involved. The Crafting/Needlework Group will be meeting in person next week, Thursday, June 19th from 1 - 3 pm in the parish hall lounge.

Our first blood drive was such a success last year, that we are planning two this year! The Blood Drive will be on Monday, July 14th from 1 to 6 PM in the lower level of the Parish Hall. Attention All Saints Family!!!!

During the month of June, we will be collecting school supply and hygiene products to support local families. This is the 4^th Annual Back to School drive and with your help, it will be a success. The Health Ministry Team Network of Calvert County is coordinating this drive. There is a box in the rear of the church for you to leave your supplies and products during the month of JUNE. A list of the supplies and hygiene products needed is below. Thank you for supporting local families in need.

The Men's Breakfast is always the first Saturday of every month at 9:00 am at Traders Restaurant in Chesapeake Beach. Jim Thrift, our convener, will be in attendance setting up the room before 9:00. The breakfasts are for all Christian men for fellowship and fun. We discuss most everything except religion. Plan to attend and bring a friend as all are welcome, especially newcomers. If you attend you'll have fun, if you don't, we'll talk about you.
