Message from the Rector

I am thrilled to share some exciting news with all of you! It is with great joy and anticipation that I announce the arrival of our new deacon, the Rev. Chip Tucker, who will begin his ministry with us in September. Chip’s first Sunday with us will be September 22, and I am confident that his presence will bring new energy and inspiration to our parish.

Chip is a cradle Episcopalian born and raised in Virginia Beach. After earning a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech, he moved to Annapolis and started attending St. Anne’s. He worked at the David Taylor Research Center (later called the Naval Surface Warfare Center) in Annapolis and then at the Naval Sea Systems Command at the Washington Navy Yard, with most of his career spent in submarine design. Now retired from his engineering career, Chip has devoted himself to serving the church and community.

As a member of St. Anne’s, Chip participated in many areas of parish life, including vestry, youth ministry, adult formation, and pastoral care (Stephen Ministry). Most recently, he served as an acolyte, chalice bearer, thurifer, and verger. He began formal discernment for ordination in 2019. As part of his formation, he completed Clinical Pastoral Education, received theological education from St. Mary’s Ecumenical Institute, and served congregational internships at St. Paul’s Prince Fredrick and Christ Church West River. He is also a member of the Maryland Episcopal Public Policy Network (MEPPN) and chair of the Spiritual Care Advisory Committee of Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Chip’s dedication to service extends beyond the church. His wife of 36 years, Gail Tucker, is also ordained to the deaconate, and they have two grown children, Lauren and Walter. In his free time, Chip enjoys playing golf, playing guitar on occasion, and hiking.

I am confident that Chip’s diverse experiences and deep commitment to faith will greatly enrich our parish community. Let us warmly welcome Chip as he joins us in our journey of faith.

PS: Due to inclement weather, the Parish Picnic location has been moved to the Parish Hall! Still bring a bite to share if you can and a chair to create that outdoor feel and looking forward to seeing you all!

A Moment to Pray, to Pause, Reflect, Ask and Yield

In the beautiful setting of our sanctuary, we can Pause from the worries of the past week and the pressures we may face in the coming weeks. While using this time to Reflect on God’s grace and mercy, we can recall God’s promises to “never fail nor forsake” us. Remember, Jesus encourages us to Pray by saying, “If in my name you Ask me for anything, I will do it.” Also, this dedicated time will give us courage to Yield to the will of God.

This month’s Le Saints de Vin wine tasting is being hosted by Lori Moore and Elaine Keyes. The event will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, July 14th at 1761 Lottie Fowler Road, Prince Frederick.

We will be revisiting our September 2021 theme "Battle of the Blends." Each wine will be a blend of different wines/grapes.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend to John Overstrom at joverstrom01@gmail.com.

Please bring a dish to share. Please note that we will share in the cost of the wines, and we will vote for our favorite wines with cash donations that will go to a charity we select during the tasting.

There are three cats in the house, they will likely hide. :-) But we do not want them to go outside. Hope to see you next week!

Directions – Off Route 4, take Dares Beach Road eastbound. Turn left on Clay Hammond Road, then right on Lottie Fowler Road. Drive all the way to the end. Lori’s house (1761) is the first one once you hit the circle, it’s blue, lots of driveway parking there. If you pass her driveway, the very next flag lot drive has parking on the side of the road. You can also pull onto the grass in the circle to park as well.

HEALTH MINISTRY CORNER

The Health Ministry would like for all of our parishioners to pair up with an individual and commit to become accountable to a regular wellness check. The individual that you select does not have to be a parishioner. It is very important for us to check on each other now more than ever before. Telephone, text, email, and/or a note in the mail are just examples of how you can stay in touch and be committed and accountable for wellness checks. Choose an individual and commit to remind that individual about a few basic wellness routines such as: drink water, exercise, take medication(s), check blood pressure and blood sugar, check weight, attend routine dental and medical appointments, and interact with others to avoid loneliness. Let’s start now with our WELLNESS ACCOUNTABILITY.

Thanks!!!!! Stay safe, healthy, and hydrated. We can follow Christ better when we are healthier. The Bible tells us to love God, love our neighbors and to love ourselves. If we love ourselves, then we will take care of our physical and mental health.

WELCOME COMMITTEE

All Saints Parish is excited about welcoming new visitors to our church. We want to make sure that when visitors enter into our sanctuary, that they receive a warm and comfortable welcome. We would like to extend an invitation to church members to join the Welcome Committee. We need more parishioners to join our Welcome Committee to serve at both the 8:00AM and 10:30AM services. If you are interested in greeting and welcoming new visitors, please contact Malane Silver, 443-624-4691 or Adriane Hope Sayles, 301-467-1467 to receive more information. Thank you.

Reading Camp recap

Thank you All Saints Parish for making Reading Camp Calvert a success again this year. Although we faced staffing challenges, our campers had two jam-packed on site camp days. Can you imagine reluctant and emerging readers "fighting over" which book to read? or creating vision boards? or eagerly sharing what they did and learned with their parents?

After always delicious hot breakfasts from Gary, Kip and Oscar, campers were introduced to the Olympic Games, participated in short lessons in reading and writing and fun ways to use those skills, made vision boards and created some cool art projects. Musicians from St. Paul's introduced campers to drums and other percussion instruments from around the world and sang "The Alphabet of Nations" by They Might Be Giants -a camp favorite! They each read a biography to learn more about an olympic athlete and 2 pairs of campers wanted the same athlete! They had a visit from the Bookmobile and volunteer buddy readers, including Fr. Andrew, Linda H and Mary F from All Saints. The afternoon had us engaged in Olympic-like games and on Friday, a closing ceremony and program to practice public speaking skills and share with families all they had accomplished.

We'd like to thank especially Gary, Kip, Oscar, Steve W, Fr. Andrew, Mary F, Linda H for their help and generosity in making our Olympic Camp Week a success.

So... What's with C4's increased emphasis on funding?!

First: Everyone involved in C4 is enormously grateful to all those who have given to make it "go."  Second: It's understandable to think, "Hey, I already gave!, "I give to others." or, "It's someone else's turn."

But, reality is different. Three years of thought, effort, fundraising, community workshops, involvement with subject-matter experts and community – and far from least, the hard work of client-members and their liaisons – have now created the conditions that can make it last and actually change things for generations. What were the chances? But, that's only the prologue.

One of my favorite observations is the one about the difference between a chicken's and a pig's interest in breakfast: ... one provides a contribution; the other makes a commitment. C4 is at that stage. Without sustained commitment, it cannot achieve its potential; but with commitment...!  The example of the people of All Saints – its "mother church" – is critical; not just because money itself makes a difference, but more importantly because our actions, the example of All Saints, inspire others, including grant-making organizations, to join in.

Please prayerfully consider (and set aside the few minutes necessary), becoming a recurring monthly donor. Clicking on this link (or pasting it into your browser) will take you to a C4 PayPal site accepting debit and credit cards: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=VB3MXRFXYHHKU .

Checks annotated for C4 in the offering plates or mail also work wonders!

With Heartfelt Thanks,

Kip At Lee

The ECW is relatively quiet this month, taking a break before coming back in August to brainstorm exciting ideas about the future of the organization and, believe it or not, to begin the planning of the 2024 Christmas Market. Don't forget we will not be meeting in July.

We originally announced that a SAVE the DATE fellowship activity was scheduled for September 28th. We have changed the date since the 2024 Bag Hunger event is scheduled on the same date. We have set a new date for October 5th to meet and greet those who have not joined in volunteering and fellowship with the Episcopal Church Women. Be sure to mark the date now and look for additional information to come in August.

Our next fellowship breakfast is scheduled for Saturday, (8/3), at 9 AM at Dream Weaver’s in Prince Frederick These monthly meetings are a chance to get to know other women in the parish, to make new friends, to catch up with each other and to share stories. This is not a business meeting - just fun, food and friendly chit-chat! All Parish women - women who attend All Saints, women who volunteer with us and women who are friends are welcome to join us in fellowship. Come, place your order, meet us in the back room and find out more about who we are!!!

And just a reminder, suggestions regarding the ECW are always welcome and you can email Jill at crbrfarm@msn.com if you have exciting ideas to share before the next meeting (Saturday, August 17th at 9 AM).

We will be meeting Thursday, July 18th from 6:30 - 8 pm. Please join us to work on your projects or just to talk. Please share with your friends who might be interested. No crafting required! All are welcome! If you have any questions about this or our in-person meetings, please contact Cindy Overstrom at cynthiaoverstrom@gmail.com or 410-474-0086.

The Men's Breakfast is always the first Saturday of every month at 9:00 am at Traders Restaurant in Chesapeake Beach. Jim Thrift, our convener, will be in attendance setting up the room before 9:00. The breakfasts are for all Christian men for fellowship and fun. We discuss most everything except religion. Plan to attend and bring a friend as all are welcome, especially newcomers. If you attend you'll have fun, if you don't, we'll talk about you.
