Message from the Rector

I am delighted to share that our parish has taken a significant step towards ensuring the physical well-being of our community. We now have an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) installed within our sacred space. This device is designed to analyze the heart rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electric shock to restore a normal heart rhythm in cases of ventricular fibrillation, a condition that can lead to sudden cardiac arrest.

The AED is mounted on the wall next to the fire extinguisher, in the corner by the baptismal font. This location is symbolic and intentional. We want this corner to be recognized as the life-giving and life-saving corner—life-giving through the sacramental waters of baptism, and life-saving with the presence of the fire extinguisher and AED. It stands as a testament to our commitment to love our Christ-centered lives and protect them as best as we can.

I am also pleased to announce that all our ushers have recently undergone CPR training and are certified to use the AED. We always ensure that at least one trained usher is present at every service, ready to act in case of an emergency.

This addition would not have been possible without the generous donations from our parishioners. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all who contributed financially to the purchase of the AED. Your generosity is a true blessing. Additionally, I am deeply grateful to our dedicated ushers for their willingness to undertake this vital training, embodying Christ’s love and care in tangible ways. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about the AED, please do not hesitate to reach out.

PS- NEWCOMERS! This is the weekend!--the next newcomers brunch will be at rectory after church this coming Sunday, June 23rd. If you are relatively new to the church and have never been to a newcomers brunch, consider yourselves invited! All ages welcome.

Sunday Education / Formation for the SUMMER (for both youth and adults!!)

Every Sunday of the summer, starting with Sunday, June 16th, during our formation hour between services from 9:15am - 10:15am, we are diving into Scripture! Using the curriculum, Echo the Story, which is an overview of the Bible, from creation to the formation of the church, each week we will experience the biblical narrative through storytelling, creative reflection, and dialogue.

All are welcome to join. Our time will begin in the Heritage Room (upstairs parish hall) all together to watch a short video that introduces the theme for the week, and then the youth will break off into the Sunday School room for their own discussion led by Father Andrew, while the adults will stay in the Heritage Room and have a facilitated discussion with many different leaders throughout the summer.

Freedom Truly Isn’t Free

In the celebration of “Juneteenth” we have been poignantly reminded that freedom isn’t free.  As important as it was that people still enslaved in Texas received the message of the President penned in 1863 that they were free, it only began an arduous journey for formerly enslaved people to receive the blessings of freedom – a journey ongoing until the moment that you are reading this. As difficult as it may be to face this, the effects of slavery continue to this day in the lives of many descendants of enslaved people … like a straight line reaching from chains, through unequal education, prejudiced-denied employment, red-lining of housing, and existing attitudes.

This community has embarked on one important path to reconcile our ideals with our reality. It is known as “C4”, the Calvert Concept Charitable Corporation – and focuses on financial empowerment, including home or business ownership. It is a great experiment in reconciliation to permanently end these lingering effects. It is succeeding, but cannot thrive without meaningful, substantial and ongoing financial support. Please join other “Equity Warriors” in providing this support through recurring monthly gifts, or by making generous periodic gifts – starting today. Only such gifts can ensure success across the time required to overcome decades of injustice. Please give now and in the future at C4’s website or through All Saints.  Thank you.

Kip At Lee

President, C4

Our June business meeting was held last Saturday and we gave a hearty welcome to our new president, Jill Dowell, and our new Secretary, Tam Timmerman. We are excited to have new leadership and are looking forward to see where the next several years will take us. While we will not have a meeting in July, Jill has encouraged us to prayerfully consider where we see the ECW going in the future between now and the August meeting. Suggestions are always welcome and you can contact Jill (443-610-5294) if you have exciting ideas to share before the next meeting (Saturday, August 17th at 9 AM).

Patti At Lee is planning a fellowship event in September with a boat ride on the Wm Tennyson out of Calvert Marine Museum. Please SAVE THE DATE for 9/28 from 10:30 to 1:30, with more details to follow. Come and join us, meet other women in the church and find out more about the ECW.

You are invited to join us on Saturday, (7/6), at 9 AM for our monthly Ladies Fellowship Breakfast at Dream Weaver’s in Prince FrederickThis is not a business meeting - just fun, food and friendly chit-chat! All Parish women - women who attend All Saints, women who volunteer with us and women who are friends are welcome to join us in fellowship. Come, place your order, meet us in the back room and find out more about who we are!!!

The crafting/needlework group will be meeting in person next week, Thursday, June 27th from 1 - 3 pm upstairs in the parish hall lounge.

If you want to learn how to knit or crochet, we can help with that. Bring your supplies or if you have none, we've got it covered! We have had people bring their embroidery project or even their coloring book to work on. If you would just like to join us to chat, we would be happy to have you, no crafting required. All are welcome. If you have a friend who would like to come, please let them know. We hope to see you there.

If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Overstrom at cynthiaoverstrom@gmail.com or 410-286-8060.

Join us to work in the Spudnik garden on the grounds of All Saints Church, Sunderland, Saturdays from 9-11 AM June 22 and July 13 and 27. Note that we'll try to beat the heat by meeting one hour earlier. Bring a hat, some water and a friend. We have all the tools we need to get the job done. Hope to see you there! Questions? Contact Master Gardener Mimi Miller at millerfam1976@verizon.net.

Plan to enjoy a delicious meal at Chesapeake Grill and Deli in Dunkirk Tuesday, June 25. Sit outside or inside the deli. Part of the proceeds that day will help support Chesapeekers, our local chapter of Questers, International. Its current project is to help renovate the Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum's Dolores parlor car. Patti At Lee and Mary Ann Munn are active members of Chesapeekers, which recently funded period shades inside Dolores.
