Message from the Rector

As part of the "Year of the Why" last year, we had our first instructed Eucharist, delving into the "why" behind our Sunday worship and its profound importance in our spiritual lives.

Last week in my sermon, I emphasized the fact that what we do in worship matters. The disciplined, repetitive nature creates a routine that makes worship necessary for our lives...it builds our faith and hope in a world full of hatred and fear that often tests our faith and breaks down our hope. And it strengthens us to then go out and be Christ's agents of good and love in the world! It seems like the timing is right to once again have an instructed Eucharist (something that I hope will be an annual tradition), because even if you experienced it last year, we all have short memories, and worship--the act of glorifying God--is always worth discussing. This Sunday, come and see!

The instructed Eucharist is an opportunity for all of us to deepen our connection to the divine mysteries unfolding before us during our worship. By gaining a greater understanding of the significance behind each element and action, I hope to enhance our appreciation and participation in the sacred liturgy.

I encourage you to come with an open heart and an inquisitive mind, ready to engage in this meaningful exploration of our worship practices. It is my belief that this experience will not only strengthen our individual relationships with God but also deepen our communal bond as we collectively seek to uncover the profound "whys" that underpin our shared faith.

Let us come together this Sunday, prepared to embark on a transformative journey of discovery and spiritual enlightenment. May our instructed Eucharist ignite a renewed sense of wonder, gratitude, and awe for the divine presence in our lives.

PS- Just below is a brand new SAVE THE DATE sheet of upcoming events in August. Please mark your calendars!

Liturgy Retreat

Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 11:00am

Ever wonder how our Sunday worship comes together? Are you interested in getting involved in worship? Do you currently help in making worship possible? Then the Liturgy Retreat is for you!!! Whether it be reading as a lector, leading prayers of the people, ushering, setting and cleaning up the service as altar guild, or serving at the altar as an acolyte or lay minister, this is the place to learn the "why" of what we do AND the "how"...on Saturday, August 3, we will provide a training of any or ALL the roles involved in worship (or at least get you started in the right direction). For questions, contact Father Andrew.

Rain couldn't stop the fun of our Annual All Saints Parish Picnic—we just brought it inside at the Parish Hall!! Line dancing, corn hole, Chicago-dog station, massive potluck spread, and best of all, the FELLOWSHIP!!

Elizabeth Jolie's Memorial Service

Saturday, July 27 at 11:00am

For our longtime parishioners, some of you may remember Elizabeth. She and her husband, Jacques, were regular worshipers until the mid 1990's when they moved away. On July 4, Elizabeth passed away, and we will be hosting her memorial service and inurnment at All Saints this coming Saturday. Kat, her daughter, asked that I share this information, along with Elizabeth's obituary, with the parish, and to share that all are welcome.

May Elizabeth's soul, along with all the souls of the departed, rest in peace. Amen.

A Moment to Pray, to Pause, Reflect, Ask and Yield

In the beautiful setting of our sanctuary, we can Pause from the worries of the past week and the pressures we may face in the coming weeks. While using this time to Reflect on God’s grace and mercy, we can recall God’s promises to “never fail nor forsake” us. Remember, Jesus encourages us to Pray by saying, “If in my name you Ask me for anything, I will do it.” Also, this dedicated time will give us courage to Yield to the will of God.

HEALTH MINISTRY CORNER

The Health Ministry would like for all of our parishioners to pair up with an individual and commit to become accountable to a regular wellness check. The individual that you select does not have to be a parishioner. It is very important for us to check on each other now more than ever before. Telephone, text, email, and/or a note in the mail are just examples of how you can stay in touch and be committed and accountable for wellness checks. Choose an individual and commit to remind that individual about a few basic wellness routines such as: drink water, exercise, take medication(s), check blood pressure and blood sugar, check weight, attend routine dental and medical appointments, and interact with others to avoid loneliness. Let’s start now with our WELLNESS ACCOUNTABILITY.

Thanks!!!!! Stay safe, healthy, and hydrated. We can follow Christ better when we are healthier. The Bible tells us to love God, love our neighbors and to love ourselves. If we love ourselves, then we will take care of our physical and mental health.

The ECW is relatively quiet this month, taking a break before coming back in August to brainstorm exciting ideas about the future of the organization and, believe it or not, to begin the planning of the 2024 Christmas Market. Don't forget we will not be meeting in July.

Although summer may be a quiet time on the church calendar, elves are busy working behind the scenes organizing the 19th Annual Christmas Market. We are looking to fill all of the vendor slots by the end of the summer and we can use your help in completing this task. If you know someone who is a crafter, talk to them about joining us at the Chistmas Market. Send their contact information to allsaints1692christmasmarket@gmail.com If you attend an event where crafters are set up selling their products and you think that their work would be a good fit at the Christmas Market, get a business card with contact information, take a picture of the card with contact information, and send it to the above Christmas Market email. An application will be sent to those vendors that you recommend. Help us support the crafters and artisans in our southern Maryland community! If you have any questions, call or text Deb Shupe at 410-231-8150.

We have set a new date for October 5th to meet and greet those who have not joined in volunteering and fellowship with the Episcopal Church Women. Be sure to mark the date now and look for additional information to come in August.

Our next fellowship breakfast is scheduled for Saturday, (8/3), at 9 AM at Dream Weaver’s in Prince Frederick These monthly meetings are a chance to get to know other women in the parish, to make new friends, to catch up with each other and to share stories. This is not a business meeting - just fun, food and friendly chit-chat! All Parish women - women who attend All Saints, women who volunteer with us and women who are friends are welcome to join us in fellowship. Come, place your order, meet us in the back room and find out more about who we are!!!

And just a reminder, suggestions regarding the ECW are always welcome and you can email Jill at crbrfarm@msn.com if you have exciting ideas to share before the next meeting (Saturday, August 17th at 9 AM).

The crafting/needlework group will be meeting in person next week, Thursday, July 25th from 1 - 3 pm upstairs in the parish hall lounge.

If you want to learn how to knit or crochet, we can help with that. Bring your supplies or if you have none, we've got it covered! We have had people bring their embroidery project or even their coloring book to work on. If you would just like to join us to chat, we would be happy to have you, no crafting required. All are welcome. If you have a friend who would like to come, please let them know. We hope to see you there.

If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Overstrom at cynthiaoverstrom@gmail.com or 410-286-8060.

The Project Spudnik garden is growing and thriving! Come play in the garden and raised beds at All Saints Church, Sunderland, this summer on Saturdays from 9-11 a.m. July 27 and August 10 and 24. Harvest times are Tuesdays from 9-11 a.m. to beat the heat, as much as possible.

Let Mimi, our devoted Master Gardener, know if you have any questions. More help is always needed, so invite your friends to join us!

Questions? Contact Master Gardener Mimi Miller at millerfam1976@verizon.net.

The Men's Breakfast is always the first Saturday of every month at 9:00 am at Traders Restaurant in Chesapeake Beach. Jim Thrift, our convener, will be in attendance setting up the room before 9:00. The breakfasts are for all Christian men for fellowship and fun. We discuss most everything except religion. Plan to attend and bring a friend as all are welcome, especially newcomers. If you attend you'll have fun, if you don't, we'll talk about you.
