MESSAGE FROM OUR SENIOR WARDEN
I am so happy to announce that on Sunday, January 11, 2026 during our 10:30AM service, Kyle Granville will be baptized. Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church, establishing an unbreakable bond with God adopting individuals as His children, forgiving sins, and marking them as Christ’s own forever. We are so thankful that Kyle will be baptized on Sunday and we want you to lift him up in prayer and give him a big hug. Canon Randy Kyle Callender will be the officiant on Sunday and our own Deacon Chip Tucker will be assisting.
Our Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026 after our 9:00AM service. We are planning a potluck brunch so, bring your favorite dish to share. This is a very important meeting and we want everyone to attend. There will be a craft table for children and they will be having fun making crafts while parents will be having fun participating in the meeting. We will have an election for Vestry members and the bios for the people running for these seats will be in the newsletter. Please read about nominees for the Vestry. A choice of candidates suggests a parish with leadership strength and numerous individuals ready to take part.
Thinking About Bible Study!
As Rev. Virginia starts at All Saints, she is curious whether people would like a weekly Bible study. Don’t worry-you will not need to be a Biblical scholar to participate, in fact you don’t even need to own a Bible! Please take this survey to share your thoughts about getting a Bible study started. Rev. Virginia will share the results of the survey after she starts on January 20, 2026. Link to the survey:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NQ56Y3N
I look forward to seeing all of you on Sunday!!!! Reach out to parishioners and
make sure that all are doing well.
Peace,
Adriane Hope Sayles
| We will worship together at our combined 9:00 a.m. service, with the Annual Meeting to follow with a Potluck Brunch in the Parish Hall (bring your favorite potluck dish). | |
My name is Avhlee Reist, and I am currently a senior at Northern High School. I have lived in Calvert County for most of my life and have been a member of All Saints since elementary school. In the spring of 2023, I participated in Episcopal 101 and was confirmed into the Episcopal Church. Since the fall of 2025, I have served as a leader of All Saints’ Sunday School program, working closely with church leadership, parents, and children to strengthen youth formation and engagement within the parish. I have also served as an Acolyte for many years. Through these roles, I have gained valuable experience in leadership, collaboration, and service, and I am committed to helping foster a strong and active youth presence at All Saints.

My name is Ben Reist. I have been attending All Saints with my wife and children since 2012. Prior to that, I was a member of Saint Mark’s on Capitol Hill. Over the past year, I was appointed to the Planned Giving Board, where I currently serve as secretary.
I have also been actively involved in parish outreach, most notably by volunteering with Safe Nights each year, an outreach ministry coordinated by my wife for All Saints. In addition, after noticing the lack of a consistent Sunday School program for children, I worked with my two daughters to restart Sunday School during the 10:30 a.m. service in the fall of 2025.
All Saints has been a welcoming and supportive community for my family over the years and has been especially meaningful for my children. If elected to the vestry, I hope to serve as an advocate for children and families, helping ensure that All Saints remains the welcoming and supportive community it has been for my family.

My name is Cynthia (Cindy) Overstrom. I was born in New Jersey and was raised Roman Catholic. After not practicing for about twenty years, I attended the Presbyterian Church, explored Mormonism, and studied with Jehovah’s Witnesses for a bit. Five years after leaving the Presbyterian Church, I visited All Saints, and I’m still here.
After high school, I attended St. Peter’s College in New Jersey for 2 years. After that, I went to a school for Nuclear Medicine technology and became a certified tech. I worked in the field for about 8 years. In the last few years of that, I finished undergrad at Rutgers University in New Jersey and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. I worked in the field briefly, but it wasn’t very enjoyable. After two years, I switched to cooking at a local health food store. After taking some time off to be a stay-at-home mother, I worked with a real estate agent and got my license in Pennsylvania. I was also a substitute teacher for about five years in Calvert. I was offered a job managing a set of small museums in Prince George’s County, where I worked for about four years. I’ve been retired for 13 years. I’ve been living in Calvert County for 25 years with my husband, John, for 40+ years. We have two children: Martin, 35, and Rachel, 32. I was a Girl Scout leader and helped with Boy Scouts. We discovered All Saints through Boy Scout Troop 1692. Both kids now live and work in northern Virginia.
I’ve attended All Saints for about 22 years and was received into the Episcopal Church around 20 years ago. My daughter attended Sunday school as a child, and I taught Sunday school for a few years. I’ve also been in the altar guild, organized Angel Tree, helped with Heartfelt backpacks, served a term in the vestry, a term as ECW president, and two terms as ECW secretary. I currently serve in the ECW as a helper in the kitchen and serve coffee hour
with Cindy Peil on the first Sundays of the month. I am the organizer for the crafting/needlework group, which meets weekly either in person or on Zoom. I support the church festivals by working at each one on the day of the festival. I am a founding member of Les Saints du Vin, a wine-tasting group.
Probably, my main skill is that if I volunteer for something, you can depend on me to show up and do my best. I am organized and write things out so I know what I’m doing. I’m open-minded and like to help. I enjoy interacting with people.
I love All Saints Parish and look forward to helping us get through this time of transition.

Greetings, my name is Jill Hall-Dowell. I was born and raised in Calvert County. Our family has been attending All Saints for four generations. I graduated from Calvert High School in 1980 and attended Community College before starting a
career of forty-two years in retail management.
I married into the Dowell family of Sunderland in 1995. My husband Chris and I live on the family farm. In 1999, we had our first and only child, Joshua Shannon, who is now 26.
Recently, after retiring in 2021, my husband and I started volunteering at All Saints following a family tradition of giving back to the community and serving the Lord. I have volunteered at Safe Nights, the Calvert Arts Fest, and the Christmas Market and am currently the ECW President. I have been a member of the ECW for the past two-and-a-half years. I also help behind the scenes by doing odd projects on the property. This year, I started with many volunteers, a program called Cards for Caring, delivering Christmas cards to Calvert County Nursing Home and Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Our first annual event delivered over 425 cards.
Last year, I was appointed by Father Andrew Rutledge to fill a one-year vacancy on the Vestry. I would be honored to continue serving on our Vestry, helping to deliver our message that all are welcome, loved, and respected. I would love to share the gifts I have to help make a difference in our church and community and to contribute to the future of All Saints.

My name is Joe Klausner. I was born and raised in South Jersey and moved to Maryland in the late ‘80s when a job opportunity presented itself. While working as a tech on automating the old Navy Teletype Machines, I met my wife, Mary, on the job. We married in 1992 and soon after moved to Calvert because of the outstanding school system, where we raised two sons, Peter and Harry.
I started attending All Saints when Mary and Norm Flora invited me to attend something Father Ken was organizing called Honest to God back in 2015. In it, I learned about other religions and customs, the context for the readings that Sunday, and how they open up beautifully when you don’t take them so literally. As a cradle Roman Catholic, I find the Episcopal Church to be refreshingly diverse and open-minded. I was blessed to be received into the Episcopal faith on May 19, 2024.
I have been part of the Worship and Music ministry since I started attending, and am grateful to Deb Watson for giving me the opportunity to contribute musically on Sundays and whenever needed. I served on the Living Our Values Committee under Sherrill Munn’s chairmanship until his passing. I contributed to multiple episodes of the Saturday Skills Show Zoom meetings during COVID, including one on the mandolin. My wife, Mary, and I have been co-chairs of the Silent Auctions for many years, either for the Christmas Market or the Calvert Arts Festival (CAF). Mary and I (mostly Mary) have recently taken over as the Vendor Liaison for the CAF from Mary Ann Munn. My band, Some Assembly, has been playing at the Christmas Market and CAF for many, many years. I have assisted in the kitchen for the Outreach Breakfasts and Safe Nights.
I worked for Calvert County Government for 28 years. For 18 years, I was the Director of Technology Services. Early in my tenure as director, I struggled with the lack of staff and resources, and was usually only one staff member deep in the technical expertise required. I often had to think out of the box to get things
accomplished. I see similar constraints here at All Saints and would be honored to serve on the vestry to help wherever I can.

My name is Paul Dougherty. I’m originally from Wilmington, Delaware, but went to college in Baltimore and have lived in Maryland for almost 30 years. I’m an attorney in Annapolis. My wife, Renee Seigley, and I were married at All Saints, and we live in Owings, Maryland, with our son William (18), and our two daughters, Maggie (16) and Vivien (13). Maggie and Vivien were confirmed at All Saints in 2025.
I, Renee, and our family have been members of All Saints since we moved to Owings in 2024; previously, I was a parishioner at All Hallows in Edgewater, Maryland. I was raised Catholic and attended schools run by Salesian Oblates, Jesuits, and Augustinians, but was received into the Episcopal Church in 2010. My mother came from a Southern Baptist family, but my paternal grandmother was an Episcopalian. I was drawn to the Episcopal church by its combination of tradition (including scripture) and openness (community), and especially its encouragement of critical thinking. Plus, I really love the music.
I haven’t yet had the opportunity to serve the All Saints community in a formal way, but I’ve very much enjoyed the adult formation classes, and have been glad to volunteer in various ways (campus cleanup; Safe Nights; etc.) I’ve previously been lucky to serve on several non-profit boards (Arc of Southern Maryland; St. Andrew’s School, Edgewater), and while I’m always happy to help wherever there is a need, I’ve often been asked to use my legal training and experience specifically to support governance and operations efforts.
While I’ve only lived in Calvert County since 2024, I worked here for more than a decade beginning in 2005, and I continue to enjoy good, long-term relationships in our community, some of which may be of use to All Saints. And, as noted above, my legal background and experience on other boards may be of practical use to the All Saints Vestry.

Safe Nights - SAVE THE DATE!
All Saints will host Safe Nights from February 8-15, 2026. Safe Nights helps protect Calvert County’s unhoused population from the cold by providing food and shelter in a clean and secure environment. To this end, we will need volunteers to set up the Parish Hall with cots, provide meals, serve as monitors, and help with clean-up. To sign up, please visit the link below. For more information, contact Fane Lineback or David Lippe.

2025 Stewardship Campaign
We’re getting close, but not quite there…..
We’re trying to wrap up our 2025 Stewardship Campaign. The Vestry looked at our needs and set a goal to raise $275,000 in pledges for 2026. As you can see, we are getting close, but still short of our goal by about $27,000. We would sure like to present a balanced budget to the Parish at our upcoming annual meeting. If you have not yet pledged, please prayerfully consider it. There are always pledge cards in the back of the church, or you can go online at https://allsaints1692.org/support-us/annual-stewardship/
Faithfully,
Ken McKenzie

January 11th Meeting of Les Saints du Vin 4 PM
Happy New Year!
Marissa Margosian will be hosting our first tasting of 2026 and she always comes up with an interesting theme and a fun tasting. Here is her brief overview: Taste your way through 5 countries (and 3 states) on 4 continents as you figure out the theme that ties these wines together (and as in previous years, the answer isn’t that they’re all made from grapes, even though that’s true!). This is our easiest mystery theme yet - and Google is allowed!
Please RSVP to John Overstrom at joverstrom01@gmail.com if you plan to attend.
As usual, please bring a dish to share. We will reimburse Marissa for our share of the wine costs, and we will vote for our favorite wines, with the proceeds going to a charity we select at the tasting.
Marissa will host this tasting at Cindy’s and my house.
5808 Red Octopus Drive, Sunderland, MD 20689
Google Maps does a good job of getting you here, but the driveway has several forks. At the entrance, stay to the left and head up the incline. At the top of the incline, stay to the left of the row of pine trees and go all the way to the back. We have plenty of parking on the driveway near the house in the grassy area along the drive. Feel free to park in front of the garage.

Healing Services at All Saints
What is a healing service? The Church of England’s Diocese of Worcester website approaches it this way: “Healing was central to the ministry of Jesus and through the Holy Spirit, God brings healing to people today … We may receive healing through prayer, through the touch of another’s hands or anointing with oil. Healing may come through hearing the Word of God in scripture or in preaching, or in receiving bread and wine in communion, or through being listened to and valued…”
Each Wednesday, All Saints hosts a 10 a.m. Healing Service for about 30 minutes. We listen to scripture, reflect on the example of saints who have gone before, receive anointing with oil, share communion, and pray fiercely for others and ourselves. We invite you to join us! We mostly meet online, with an in-person service in the sanctuary on the last Wednesday of each month. If this speaks to you or you want to share the name of someone in your life in need of healing, please reach out to Senior Warden Hope Sayles or to your deacons Chip and Lisa.
Please join us for our weekly Healing Service. We begin at 10 a.m.
