MESSAGE FROM THE RECTOR

This Sunday we begin an 8-week journey through the Gospel of Luke during our formation hour between services (9:15–10:15am). Whether you're a seasoned Bible reader or have always felt a bit unsure about how to approach Scripture, this class is designed for you. It's not a lecture—it’s a chance to explore, ask questions, and discover how this sacred story speaks to your life today.

Luke’s Gospel is rich with stories of healing, liberation, and surprising grace. It’s where we hear Mary’s song of justice, Jesus’ parables of the lost being found, and the bold declaration that the Spirit of the Lord is upon us to bring good news to the poor. It’s also the Gospel that most fully embraces the idea that Jesus came for everyone—outsiders, skeptics, seekers, and saints alike.

At its heart, this is a Gospel of invitation. Luke wants us to know not just what happened, but why it matters. And as we walk through these stories together, we might just find our own story reflected back at us.

So come. Bring your questions, your coffee, and your curiosity. Whether you can make all eight sessions or just a few, I hope you’ll join us upstairs in the parish hall for what I truly believe will be a meaningful and enriching time.

P.S. Just a quick note—next week is my annual work remotely work, where I step away from the office to focus on planning, calendaring, and administrative tasks (the things that always get pushed to the bottom of the list). I’ll be working from the beach (because everything is easier with an ocean view!), but I’m still fully available by phone and happy to respond to pastoral needs. Don’t hesitate to reach out.

Beware of Scam Emails and Texts Pretending to Be Me

Dear All Saints,

Unfortunately, some of you have once again received scam emails or texts from someone pretending to be me—asking you to reply, and eventually, to purchase gift cards. Please know this is not from me. I will never ask you to send gift cards, and I will always communicate about parish needs in a transparent and relational way—not with vague messages asking you to respond privately.

Sadly, this kind of scam is widespread across churches and dioceses (even Bishop Carrie is regularly impersonated!). These scams prey on the kindness and generosity of churchgoers, which is heartbreaking—but the best thing we can do is be aware and not engage.

If you ever receive a suspicious message that seems to be from me, check the sender’s email address or phone number carefully. If you’re unsure, just call me or the church office to verify. It’s always better to ask.

To learn more about how to avoid and report these kinds of scams, you can visit: https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/avoiding-and-reporting-gift-card-scams

Let’s continue to be wise as serpents and gentle as doves (Matthew 10:16).

In Canon Dina’s words, via her Facebook post on the All Saints Parish page:

"How to describe a Sunday at All Saints, Sunderland?

One word: g o o d n e s s

So much goodness that this post will surely fall short in conveying its breadth and depth. Imagine a place where…

an 11 year old makes a spontaneous announcement to the congregation to welcome her newly adopted 8-year-old brother,

a community gathers to discern a vision for the coming 10 years of ministry and mission,

the music is fresh and inviting,

the path to the parish hall is gardenia-scented,

the vestry leaders and planned giving committee leaders take time to pray, learn and discern together,

the rector Andrew Rutledge laughs and claps and cries with God’s people,

a 24/7 food pantry extends care to neighbors in need,

newcomers arrive to a warm welcome at both 8 and 10:30 am services,

and not one, but two- YES, TWO- potlucks on one Sunday!!!

It was so good to return and experience God’s goodness in this place!'

Summer Formation Series: The Gospel of Luke

Sundays at 9:15am | Upstairs Parish Hall | June 29–August 17

Last year, we spent time building confidence in how to approach Scripture—exploring where it comes from, how it’s shaped, and why it matters. Now, we’re ready to open the pages and dive in.

This summer, we’ll journey through the Gospel of Luke in an 8-week series shaped by Scripture, The Bible Project videos, and rich conversation. Each week centers on a theme—radical love, healing, community, hospitality, and more—that invites us into the story and shows us how to live it.

Whether you’re new to Scripture or just eager to explore it in a fresh way, this class is for you. No homework, no pressure—just open hearts, curious minds, and good news.

REST! RECENTER! RENEW!

Thanks be to God! Everyone who attended the Sound Bath last Friday evening left feeling rested, re-centered, refreshed, relaxed, and renewed to say the least. The instructor, Liz Maldonado, a Wellness Practitioner, provided all participants with soothing waves of sound that helped them release tension. The calming sounds relaxed muscles and decreased anxiety. Many participants asked, “When is our next session?” Stay tuned. The Health Ministry is committed to supporting parishioners in both their physical and mental well-being. Here are some pictures for those who missed it.

Our first blood drive was such a success last year, that we are planning two this year! The Blood Drive will be on Monday, July 14th from 1 to 6 PM in the lower level of the Parish Hall. To sign up please go to this link https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/find-drive, search zip code 20689, go to July 14th and sign up! If you have any questions at all feel free to reach out to David Lippe lippedk@gmail.com, or 202-365-3924. Hope to see you there!

Attention All Saints Family!!!!

During the month of June, we will be collecting school supply and hygiene products to support local families. This is the 4th Annual Back to School drive and with your help, it will be a success. The Health Ministry Team Network of Calvert County is coordinating this drive. There is a box in the rear of the church for you to leave your supplies and products during the month of JUNE. A list of the supplies and hygiene products needed is below. Thank you for supporting local families in need.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the 2025 Reading Camp has been canceled. Thanks to all who volunteered! Your response to our call for volunteers is greatly appreciated. We also appreciate donors who purchased backpacks and books for campers. We will keep the same camp theme, so your donations will be held for next year’s camp.
