Michael J. Ritter nominated as the first openly LGBTQ+ candidate in an election for state bar office

Michael J. Ritter has been nominated to run for President of the Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA). TYLA is a division of the State Bar of Texas, an administrative agency within the judicial branch of the State of Texas. The TYLA President serves on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the State Bar.

Ritter is the first candidate openly from the LGBTQ+ community to run in an election for a statewide State Bar office. If elected, he would be the first person in Texas history openly from the LGBTQ+ community elected to serve in a statewide position in Texas’s Judicial Branch. This election is also historic because it is the first election in State Bar history to be entirely virtual.
