Dr. Vazquez delivers keynote address at Daemen College’s Public Health Week

G-Health Enterprises President and Chief Executive Officer Raul Vazquez served as keynote speaker for a conference on April 7, 2018 at Daemen College in Amherst entitled “Beyond Biology: Social Determinants in Health Promotion.” The conference was held during National Public Health Week and was attended by high school and college students interested in community-level health promotion, career exploration, and networking with community leaders.

Dr. Vazquez told the assembled crowd how the Greater Buffalo United Accountable Healthcare Network (GBUAHN) addresses the Social Determinants of Health and how GBUAHN is attacking barriers to health care through care coordination, and partnerships with organizations that provide needs such as food, housing, education, substance abuse treatment and more. Dr. Vazquez pointed out that oftentimes people don’t realize the desperate need for health care that exists in our own community.

“I send patient health navigators to people’s homes and it is horrible, heartbreaking. You don’t have to go to a third world country – we live in one,” said Vazquez. “When we see some of these people, it has an effect on you. When people don’t have beds, they don’t have food, they don’t have anything, and they don’t have anybody – that’s the stuff, when you see it, it changes you.”

Dr. Vazquez said G-Health is using cutting edge technology and programs like telehealth and geo-fencing to reach out to those in need and help them access the health care they need.
