Dear North Phoenix Prep Families,

I’m so excited to share an improvement project that is designed to create more opportunities for feedback and input from our student body.  Over the past several weeks, a team of faculty and students put in many hours of service to create our first student culture survey.  I’m absolutely thrilled about this important first step towards giving our students a voice in shaping our school’s culture.

Last week Mr. Warczinsky shared the results of the survey with our faculty and the students who served on our initial focus group and data collection team. This week the results will be posted in the courtyard entrance to the academic building. Student representatives will be available during lunch and lyceum throughout the week to help students understand and interpret the survey results. The charts are linked below:

The results reflect a wide range of opinions among the students, but one particular area of concern stood out: Students largely agree that they do not have a voice in shaping NPX rules. While the survey itself was the first important step in creating a vehicle for student input, there is more to do. As a next step, Ms. Coughlon and Ms. Schripsema are forming small student panels to address specific areas of concern identified through the survey. These panels will be tasked with gathering and utilizing student input and proposing recommendations for real school policies.

This work reflects our firm cultural commitment to genuine dialogue in the pursuit of continuously improving together.  We are so pleased to take this next step in creating structures that support conversation and a shared sense of ownership with our thoughtful and great-hearted students.

We also recognize that families will want an opportunity to discuss the survey results. Please stay tuned for more news on this exciting endeavor!

With Devotion,

Headmaster Weinhold

P.S. Please join us in extending our sincere gratitude to the following students and faculty who helped launch the first NPX Student Culture Survey. (The amount of help received was truly immense, and we sincerely regret any names that slipped through the cracks.)

State Testing Reminders

This week our 7 th and 8 th Graders will begin their AZ Merit State Achievement Assessments. Each grade level has 3 days of AZ Merit testing as outlined below. Testing will occur in the morning; however, these tests are not timed and a student may continue working until the end of the school day if needed. AZ Merit is not for a grade, but does provide the school valuable information about our students and our curriculum.  Please come to school well-rested and having eaten breakfast. You may bring a small snack for the break in between testing sessions on ELA and Math days.  Please be on time for school: Students who arrive after the testing session begins will not be able to start the test and will have to take the test during a make-up session later in the week.

Like AIMS, the AZ Merit tests are computer based. There are audio portions to the tests and students are encouraged to bring a set of headphones or earbuds that can plug into the head phone jack on the Chromebooks (no wireless).  Please check Jupiter for more specific grade level information, such as testing room assignments and grade level specific schedule information.
