Headmaster Letter

Dear North Phoenix Prep Families,

I recently came across  this article  by Jeff Haden in Inc. magazine. The article cites a recent Johns Hopkins study of skills practice. It turns out that the  way  we practice is even more important than  how much  we practice. That's important to keep in mind as our students are completing homework, studying for exams, and participating in classes. "Most people simply repeat the same moves," writes Haden. "Like playing scales on the piano, over and over again. Or going through the same list of vocabulary words, over and over again." But the researchers at Johns Hopkins found that "if you practice a slightly modified version of a task you want to master, you actually learn more and faster than if you just keep practicing the exact same thing multiple times in a row." The implications for this concept are wide-ranging, so be sure to check out this important article.

With Devotion,
Headmaster Weinhold
Re-Enrollment Begins Today!

Please update and carefully review all the guardians and parent contact information in the enrollment Parent Portal when filling out the registration packet. This will help ensure the most valid data for export back into PowerSchool for next year and for the academy to contact at any time if needed.
10th Grade Field Trip!

Huzzah! The 10th grade field trip to the Renaissance Festival will take place on Thursday, March 7. Please register your student HERE
no later than Monday, March 4th. The cost is $25 for transportation and admission to the festival. In addition, please make sure your student brings:

• A sack lunch or money to buy lunch
• Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen)
• Water bottle
• Optional: money to buy souvenirs

Students may also bring a cell phone to communicate with chaperones.

There will be pre-planned meet ups for certain events and to check in with chaperones. So long as someone in the group has access to a cell phone, it will be fine if your student does not have a cell phone. Students may wear jeans/nice pants and athletic shoes but must wear a uniform top for the trip.
