Message From HueLife Team

Word of the Year

Statue representing Janus Bifrons in the Vatican Museums

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janus

Happy January and Welcome 2023!

According to Roman culture, January signifies a time of reflection, transition, and new beginnings. Janus, the God of beginnings and passages, is usually depicted as having two faces. Janus looks back at the past and looks forward to the future simultaneously.

At our team retreat this month, we engaged in the exercise to select the word of the year for each team member, so we can intentionally let go of things in the past that hold us back and embark on new beginnings with confidence and determination.

This word cloud represents our collective intention!

When you look back at the year 2022, what are you ready to let go of?

When you look toward 2023, what are you hoping to explore?

Download the exercise below to create your own word and intention.

Tips for Getting the Most from a Coaching Experience

Professional or leadership coaching continues to grow in popularity as an avenue for personal growth and development. We've had numerous clients share their appreciation for the opportunity to slow their life down (even for only an hour) to reflect, generate new insights, set goals, and craft actions to achieve those goals.

What makes a coaching experience so valuable? Several things go into co-creating a space where you, the client, can flourish such as:

  1. Partnering with you to determine what is important to you and shape meaningful outcomes.
  2. Holding you as creative, resourceful, whole, and as the expert of your life. Some call this holding you with unconditional positive regard.
  3. Being present with you, listening fully, help discover your power.
  4. Helping you access new perspectives, new possibilities, and your inner wisdom and resources.
  5. Co-creating practices and actions to help you meet your goals/aspirations
  6. Helping you create structures of support and accountability.

HueLife Updates

On February 15th we will host Travis Beck for the Community of Practice (CoP).

Travis Beck, musician, and facilitator, will explore some of the intersections of music and facilitation. From getting the group centered with a music-based activity to conversation questions (like “What’s a line from a song this situation brings to mind for you?”), to what science suggests might be the best style of music for brainstorming, to playing music over Zoom, Travis will demonstrate how you can incorporate music into your facilitation work, regardless of your musical abilities.

Travis Beck is the director of Worship, Music, & Arts at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Rochester, MN. In 2015, he began his facilitator journey and is now working on completing his certification while also starting his trainer apprenticeship with HueLife. He frequently uses ToP® methods in his faith community for workshops, staff retreats, and group discussions. Prior to moving to Minnesota in 2017, Travis was actively involved with BrickStreet Theatre in Forest City, IA, and is facilitating a strategic planning process with them as they celebrate 50 years of community theater.

Mission Update

Reflections from YouLead 2022 Participants

With all eighteen YouLEAD participants now back in Ukraine, we wanted to bring you their reflections from their time in the USA.

We would also like to recognize that all of this would have been impossible without the many people who donated their resources, time, and attention. We are so grateful to everyone who donated to the program, to community partners, host families and all those who have in one way or another helped this program to come to fruition.

But the program did not end at the moment when the participants went to Ukraine! We are already working on the YouLEAD 2023 program! Stay tuned and contact Irina Fursman if you would like to get involved.
