Did you Know......?
After her mother passed in December 2011, Sally Tartre began doing advocacy work for the Alzheimer’s Association in Augusta. Months later, and along with her two sisters and the support of her family, Sally founded
A Place to Start
. The organization, which officially launched in June of 2012, began by providing free consultations for family members caring for loved ones with
Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Most families, once given a diagnosis of Alzheimer's or dementia are not given any sort of road map and quickly the journey becomes lonely and arduous. What started off as a place to go for consultations and recommendations on how to navigate, has now bloomed into a place to gather and feel a sense of belonging. Sally and Diana have created 'a place to start' in the most literal sense....a place to start making new friends with those who 'get it', a place to start learning more about the journey of Alzheimer's and dementia, a place to start laughing again......
Thank You Sally and Diana for your full hearts, your giving spirit and your endless work to help create a safe space for members of our community!!!!
