In-Use Off-Road Diesel Fleet Regulation
|
|
Beginning January 1, 2024, all California fleets are required to procure and only use R99 or R100 renewable diesel fuel in all vehicles subject to the Off-Road Regulation. There are some very limited exceptions and there are significant record-keeping requirements to demonstrate compliance and/or to qualify for an exemption.

Federal Tax Credit at Time of Purchase

The rules for claiming the [up to] $7,500 tax credit for a new EV and [up to] $4,000 for a used EV are being adjusted so that beginning in 2024, the tax credit can be deducted from the sales price at the dealership.

Reuters Report Spells Potential for Huge Fines for Automakers
|
|
A report by Reuters had quoted Auto Industry sources indicating that if proposed CAFE standards remain in place, automakers would be forced to pay billions of dollars in fines.

Fisker is taking orders for their lineup of cars, SUVs, Pickups and Exotics, where you can spend anywhere from $38K to $50K to $69K, or for the person who has it all, $385K. Some amenities include a solar roof and 3.7 seconds 0-16.

High Marks for the 2023 Corolla
|
|
The 2023 AWD Corolla has is rated at an overall 44mpg but in use testing by some drivers has shown 49mpg overall and 55 in mixed urban/freeway driving.

CALTRAIN (SF to San Jose) Going Electric
|
|
The CALTRAIN service on the Peninsula is going electric starting in 2024, a change that will speed service (due to faster acceleration) and operate with less noise and zero pollution. Future plans are to bring the rail line into downtown San Francisco with the prospect of someday connecting up with Oakland and then Sacramento.

Santa Cruz Metro Makes Largest Hydrogen Bus Purchase in US History
|
|
The Santa Cruz Metro Transit District has made the largest hydrogen bus purchase in US history because they could not find a battery-electric bus that didn’t struggle on their hilly routes. They have ordered 58 double decker buses and nine articulated buses. Metro CEO Michael Tree stated that a central hydrogen fueling station was less expensive than the large number of chargers that would be needed for battery-electric buses.

Blockchain Carbon Intensity Tracking
|
|
Chevron has partnered with 123Carbon to create what they call a, “Carbon Insetting Platform”. Using blockchain technology, the Carbon Intensity (CI) reductions can be tracked through the entire path taken by the fuel allowing the monetization of reduced CI fuels at any point.
