Volkswagen $9M Class 8 ZEV Truck Funds
|
|
Class 8 1992 - 2012 Freight, Drayage, Waste, Dump and Concrete trucks are eligible to receive up to $200K each in grant funds from the Volkswagen Mitigation Fund when replaced with ZEV trucks. Applications will be accepted online beginning August 9, 2022, and will remain open until all $9M of eligible funds have been committed.

California Clean Air Day 2022 Micro-Grant
|
|
- Funding of up to $1,000
- Bike rides, transit parties, clean air fairs, electric car test drives events, etc.
- Organizers must be from at least two of the following categories: Government Agency, Health Care, Community NGO, Business Organization
- Applications are due by August 10
|
|
- Applications can request funds for replacing up to 25 buses.
- For the 2022 CSB Rebates, EPA anticipates offering $250 million for clean school buses and $250 million for zero-emission school buses. EPA may award more funding depending on demand and other considerations.
- School districts applying directly for funds may only submit one application
- Rebate amounts range from $15,000 to $375,000 depending on the fuel type, the bus weight class and the priority rating of the school district.
- Applications are due by August 19.

The Clean Energy Fuels station at 4305 West Capital Ave., just off I-8, is now dispensing both CNG and LNG. Fleets can use major credit cards or sign up for fleet accounts.

Nuvve is partnering with San Diego Gas & Electric demonstrating an innovative Vehicle Grid Integration (VGI) technology. Nuvve’s bidirectional power management system allows vehicle battery packs to provide grid stability and site resilience while helping fleets control total vehicle energy costs.

Ford Lightning Police Package

Ford is creating a police package version of the Lightning with extended range and 580hp. Other police enhancements include:
- 0 to 60 in 4 seconds
- Upgraded cloth seats better suited for officers’ utility belt equipment
- Steel “intrusion plate” seat backs
- Reinforced dash to accommodate mounting of auxiliary equipment

The Senate appears ready to pass EV tax credit legislation, which will then move to the House. The legislation would:
- Allow for a $7,500 EV tax credit for new EVs and $4,000 for used EVs
- Eligible EV cars would need to cost less than $55K, and EV pickups less than $80K
- Battery components would need to be largely sourced from US free-trade countries
- Credits would move from buyer-submitted to point-of-sale

Universal Hydrogen Converting Aircraft to Hydrogen
|

Universal Hydrogen has received a firm order to convert passenger turboprop regional aircraft for Connect Air, a startup US air carrier. The order is to convert 75 aircraft with an option for 25 additional planes to run on hydrogen. Universal Hydrogen will also be providing the hydrogen fueling systems at airports served by these planes.

Redwood Materials is investing $3.5B in a battery materials factory in Northwest Nevada to meet the growing demand for batteries for EVs.

Stellantis has been fined $300M for selling 2014 - 2016 Chrysler vehicles with diesel engines that used engine management software that reduced emissions when being operated in test mode, but produced much higher emissions when not being tested. Three Chrysler engineers are awaiting trial on criminal charges for developing the illegal emission defeat software.
