Sacramento County Fleet Services Division is featured in the August issue of “FuelsFix” for their accomplishments in dramatically reducing the carbon footprint of their fleet through the introduction of alternative fuels and zero-emission vehicles. “FuelsFix” is a national publication from the US DOE.

Fire Blankets - New Strategy for Fighting EV Fires
|
|
Fire Cloak has released a video showing how their Fire Blanket can be used to bring an EV battery fire from 2,500 degrees to under 300 degrees and dramatically reduce the amount of water needed to extinguish the fire completely. Fire Cloak is also offering to donate 25 Fire Cloaks to fire departments that submit a request. (Note: The Fire Cloak is agnostic and works just as well on hybrid and ICE vehicles.)

|
The DOE has announced a $15.5 billion package of funding and loans primarily focused on retooling existing factories for the transition to EVs.

|
Volvo Trucks of North America has launched a “Turnkey Solution” for fleets using HD ZEVs. The program will offer access to vendor services, parts and EVSE as well as EV transition planning assistance.

Chevy Silverado EVs Available
|
|
Sustainability Partners (SP) has secured an inventory of 2024 Silverado All-Wheel Drive EVs WITH charging infrastructure for as low as $1.18/mile. SP provides complete funding to help public agencies to achieve their electrification goals. SP’s Electric Vehicles as a Service™ (EVaaS) program is a turnkey solution that pairs electric fleet vehicles with charging equipment and all related infrastructure up-front and timed replacement costs on a lease or per-mile schedule.

The average transaction price for EVs dropped from over $61,000 in January to about $53,400 in June due to price cuts from manufacturers like Tesla, coupled with a high inventory of EVs. Kelley Blue Book reports that the current inventory of EVs in the U.S. would take approximately 103 days to sell, compared to 53 days for ICE vehicles.

EV Collision Repairs More Expensive
|
|
A study of collision repair costs done by Mitchell International has shown that EV repairs in the U.S. average $963 more than the average for ICE collisions, and for Teslas, the average was $1,589 more.

The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) has recommended that federal research and development agencies prioritize public engagement as a key component of their mission.

JD Power reports that EV owners experience more issues with accessory equipment (infotainment systems, driver-assist features, etc.) than are experienced by ICE vehicle owners.

A report from “Recurrent” studied 12,500 Teslas, some that were recharged at least 90% of the time using DCFC and some that were recharged less than 10% of the time using DCFC. The report found no statistical difference in range degradation.

Texas Joins 33 States Charging EVs Highway Tax

Texas has joined 33 other states charging EVs a $200 registration/re-registration fee to make up for the road tax that is avoided by not using gasoline that has the road taxes included in the pump price.
