Fairfield Solves Infrastructure Dilemma
The City of Fairfield will receive electric transit buses as much as a year before chargers can be installed, so David Renschler, Fleet Division Manager solved the dilemma. Working with Pioneer Energy, Fairfield will be getting a mobile charging trailer, and after permanent chargers are installed, Fairfield will be able to charge vehicles during power outages.

West Sac Charging Stations
The City of West Sacramento is 74 new EVSE into service between now and 2024. The chargers will be on the ChargePoint network. L2 charging will cost 35¢/kWh and DCFC will cost 40¢ /kWh.

  • Resilience strategies and plans for EV charging networks to ensure adequate and equitable access to reliable EV charging services;
  • Projects that will assess, develop, and/or test business models that integrate EV and/or charger deployment in ways that deliver mobility, economic, or other benefits to Justice40 and underserved communities;
  • Developing a diverse and highly skilled workforce within the electrified transportation industry to support the deployment and maintenance of EV charging related equipment including equipment;
  • Establish teams to assess the performance, reliability, and usability of AC Level 2 charging and/or DC fast charging (DCFC) stations across the United States.

EPA 2023 Clean School Bus (CSB) Grant Program
  • $400 million in competitive grant funding for zero-emission school buses, clean school buses, and EVSE.
  • Two grant categories: school district and Tribal applicants; and third-party applicants.
  • Priority given to replace buses serving high-need local education agencies, rural areas, Tribal school districts and public school districts receiving basic support payments for students living on Tribal land, and rural areas. 
  • At least 40% of the funding will go to disadvantaged communities.
  • Grant deadline: Tuesday, August 22.

New Updates, Regulations, and Requirements
Climate-Related Changes in CA Budget
The California budget slashes $5 billion from climate change programs, including from incentive programs for zero-emission vehicles, despite the governor banning new gas-powered cars in California by 2035. Some funding was restored for smaller climate-related programs, however. Newsom is also seeking federal climate funding from the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
CARB Clean Off-Road Equipment Voucher Incentive Project (CORE) 2023 Launch
  • $182M Available
  • Manufacturers & Dealers Encouraged to submit for equipment verification by June 15
  • Fleet applications accepted beginning July 18

Self-Serve Gasoline in Oregon
This isn’t related to alt fuels or low-emissions, but for travelers who have found Oregon’s prohibition against fueling your own car particularly galling, that state has finally rescinded that requirement.

Silverado EV Tow Package
GM has updated the tow capacity for 2024 Chevy Silverado pickup, due out for commercial sale Q3 this year. The ratings are: 510 hp, 615 lb-ft of torque, maximum towing capacity 10,000 pounds, maximum payload capacity 1,440 pounds.

Silverado EV Base Prices Doubles
The base Silverado EV “Work Truck (WT)” that was originally priced at $40,000. Following recent EPA certification with a 450 mile range and available to be ordered, it has a new base price of $79,800. The higher-end RST will be priced at $107,895 and will be available for ordering Q4 this year.

NACS Q&A
The North American Charging Standard (NACS - the “Tesla” Standard) is rapidly becoming the new charging standard. OEMs including Ford, GM, Stelantis and Hyundai have announced plays to move to NACS, and EVSE manufacturers ABB, Blink, Chargepoint, EVgo, FLO, Freewire, Tritium & Wallbox have announced plans to begin building chargers with NACS ports.

Boeing has launched a tracking system for worldwide production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), Renewable Diesel (RD) and “Other” (undefined) that can show quantities, production pathways (including hydroprocessing, gas-to-liquids, alcohol-to-jet fuel, power-to-liquids) and global locations.

Domino's Pizza EV Fleet
Domino’s Pizza will have 1,100 2023 Chevy Bolt EVs delivering pizza around the US by the end of 2023. Their EVs are easy to spot with colorful custom wrap decals.

Forum Mobility's EV Truck Plaza
Forum Mobility is building a large charging plaza in Livermore. The $20M Livermore project will open in the summer of 2024 and will be capable of charging 96 heavy-duty BEV trucks simultaneously using a 6.5MW interconnect to a major PG&E supply line.

Lordstown Motors (Endurance EV Pickup) Bankrupt
Lordstown Motors, the company that attempted to put the first EV pickup, the “Endurance” on the market, has filed for bankruptcy after selling only six trucks in 2023 with only 40 trucks being assembled.
