- Transition the nation’s transit fleet to the lowest polluting and most energy efficient transit vehicles
- Grant Applications due by 4/13/23

EPA EJ Collaborative Problem-Solving (EJCPS) Cooperative Agreement Program
|
|
- Projects that address environmental and public health issues within an affected community;
- Assist recipients building partnerships to address environmental and public health concerns;
- $25,000,000 for up to 50 awards to Community Based Organizations (CBOs) proposing projects for up to $500,000 each.
- $5,000,000 for up to 33 awards to qualifying small CBOs with 5 or fewer full-time employees proposing projects for up to $150,000 each;
- Applications due April 10.

EPA Environmental Justice Government-to-Government (EJG2G) Program
|
|
- Projects that transform under-served communities into healthy, thriving communities;
- Funding for governmental and tribal entities;
- Support activities that lead to measurable environmental or public health results in disproportionately burdened communities;
- $20,000,000 for up to 20 awards for States partnering with Community Based Organizations (CBOs);
- $20,000,000 for up to 20 awards for tribal governments partnering with CBOs;
- $20,000,000 for up to 20 awards for local governments partnering with CBOs;
- $10,000,000 for up to 10 awards for U.S. Territories, Freely Associated States, Puerto Rico, and tribes in remote areas;

Ford eTransit Purchase by the Post Office
|
|
The Post Office has announced that they will purchase 9,250 Ford eTransit vans to begin their electric vehicle ramp-up while they wait for their purpose-built electric vehicles to be built.

Ford Lightning Production Resumes
|
|
Ford had halted Lightning production on February 14 because of a potential battery fire hazard. Ford has identified what they believe is the issue, they believe that the issue does not affect any vehicles that have been delivered and as of now, no recall has been issued and they will resume production on March 13.

GM & Honda Building Fuel Cell Manufacturing Plant

|
GM and Honda are building a $48.9M fuel cell manufacturing plant in Brownstown Township, Michigan.

CNG Fuel System Inspector Training
|
|
NGVi will conduct Live Virtual Training for fuel system inspectors. This training is essential to avoid system problems that can lead to incidents and accidents.

Honda Using Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power
|
|
Honda has begun operating its hydrogen fuel cells for back up power at their corporate campus in Torrance. Honda plans to put hydrogen fuel cell power at 100% of their American Honda Motor Company sites.
|

Tesla has announced that they will be developing V2G capability for their power electronics with a goal of incorporating it into all their vehicles over the next two years.
|
|
Tesla has dropped the prices on the Model S and the Model X by $5K to $10K depending on the model, trim levels and range. Both models feature the new Hardware 4 Autopilot/Self-Driving sensors and computer.

American Trucking Association Concerns Over Emission Standards
|
|
The American Trucking Association CEO and President, Chris Spear, has called on the Technology and Maintenance Council to, “...speak loudly and rationally and with volume to our lawmakers,” relative to what he predicts are unachievable emission reductions standards. As one example, Spear cites the fact that the minerals necessary for batteries and renewable energy generation will not exist in sufficient quantities to meet the proposed goals.

Cummins Approves Use of Renewable Diesel
|
|
Cummins has approved the use of Renewable Diesel, made from fats such as used cooking oil in all their Off-Highway Performance Series engines, from 3.8L to 15L.
|

Fulcrum BioEnergy Waste to Fuel
|
|
Fulcrum BioEnergy is a Pleasanton-based renewable energy company operating a facility in Reno that converts Municipal Solid Waste (i.e. landfill waste, also known as MSW) to diesel and aviation fuel. Fulcrum BioEnergy shipped their first batch of “synthetic crude” made from MSW to Marathon Petroleum for upgrading into renewable diesel and renewable aviation fuel. Fulcrum BioEnergy has also submitted a Carbon Intensity (CI) Pathway for Renewable Diesel to the California Air Resources Board with a CI of 14.78. (For reference, conventional diesel has a CI of 100.45, the current grid in California is 81.49)

Mercedes Benz is pushing the eSprinter market beyond local delivery with plans for “Van Life” (i.e. camper vans) as well as building longer wheelbases and supplying larger battery packs for longer range.

VW SUV & South Carolina Factory
|
|
VW has announced that they will be developing a new model division, “Scout Motors EV,” and will begin manufacturing a $40K SUV at a new $2B factory in South Carolina. The Scout Motors factory will produce 200,000 vehicles per year at full capacity.

Foxconn Production at Lordstown Factory
|
|
The GM factory in Ohio that Lordstown Motors purchased to manufacture the Endurance electric pickup truck, has been sold to Foxconn, a Taiwanese electronics company. Lordstown has contracted with Foxconn to manufacture the Endurance and Foxconn and Lordstown Motors will collaborate on next generation EV development.
