SMUD’ Charge@Home incentive program began on December 8 and lasts until February 28, 2022. SMUD residential customers who have purchased or leased a new or used EV may quality for up to $500 for the purchase of a Level 2 charger and up to $500 for installation by a licensed electrician.

The Caltech Rocket Fund 2022 is open for applications from startups needing funds for building their first commercial product prototype. The fund has five tracks:

The AB 617 Consultation Group, established to provide an opportunity to discuss of various aspects of Community Air Protection Program implementation, will conduct a virtual meeting on 1/25/22 at 9am.

CARB will conduct a public meeting to consider selecting additional communities under the Community Air Protection Program on February 10 no earlier than 4pm.

Applications for the NAFA 100 Best Fleets are now open. The 100 Best Fleets program seeks to identify and award high-performing fleets, scored on 12 criteria: Accountability, Collaboration, Creativity, Celebration Evidence of a High Trust, Culture, Performance Recognition, Doing It Right the First Time, Quick Efficient Turnaround Competitive Pricing, Staff Development, Resources Stewardship.

The DOE, under the Infrastructure Bill, is directed to add 1,000 new “Clean Energy Jobs,” and to get this done they have created a website for applicants. The website is active, but getting the positions created will take time and the actual recruitment process is not expected to begin for six months.

Nikola has signed an agreement with Corcentric Fleet Funding Solutions to provide leasing and financing solutions for fleets acquiring Nikola “Tre” BEV and FCV Class 8 trucks.

Lightning eMotors with Winnebago |
|
Winnebago’s “Advanced Technology Group” (ATG) has introduced a small all-electric RV using a Lightning eMotors’ Ford Transit electric van equipped with refrigerator, induction cooktop and a “wet” bathroom with shower.

Cummins and Isuzu have agreed to develop a BEV prototype Isuzu truck with a Cummins battery-electric drivetrain.

GM Has Big Fuel Cell Plans |
|
GM has plans for their Hydrotec “Power Cubes” that range from 60kW to 600kW (80hp - 800hp) to power trucks, buses, trains and aircraft, but also to provide power for DCFC, buildings, data centers and military applications in areas without sufficient grid support and for energy resilience.

Stellantis’ CEO Carlos Tavares has indicated that there are much faster and less expensive paths to transportation decarbonization than mandating 100% ZEV, partly related to the carbon emissions associated with manufacturing large battery packs, and including the rapidly increasing cost of renewable electricity.

Electric Bike Sales Surge |
|
Imports of electric two-wheel eBikes rose from 463,000 in 2020 to 790,000 in 2021, a 58% increase, with eBikes actually outselling EVs in 2021 by 327,000 units.

Fleets Concerned Over MD/HD EVs |
|
A recent survey of fleets done by Government Fleet Magazine indicated fleets are concerned about the performance of MD/HD EVs. 71% said they didn’t think EV trucks, as they are now, will be capable of accomplishing the same amount of work as traditional vehicles.
