Sacramento Regional Transit will relaunch their Airport Express Bus Service with a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 27. The Airport Express will operate with zero-emission electric buses.

SWITCH Maritime ZEV Electric Ferry
|
|
SWITCH Maritime’s ZEV Electric Ferry has begun sea trials. The “Sea Change” is a zero-emission, hydrogen fuel cell powered, 70-foot electric passenger ferry that will operate on the San Francisco Bay. The “Sea Change” has a 360kW Cummins fuel cell system coupled with 246kg of on-board hydrogen storage and a 100kW lithium-ion battery pack, providing power to dual 300kW motors.

Federal Infrastructure Bill
|
|
The Federal Infrastructure Bill, as passed by the Senate on August 10, will put $550B into transportation programs along with other infrastructure and environmental remediation projects. Line items include $7.5B for EVSE, $8B for hydrogen, $5B for low- and zero-emission school buses and $39B for public transit.

CARB Advanced Clean Fleets Regulation Virtual Workshop
|
|
CARB will hold a virtual workshop on the updated cost assumptions for the Advance Clean Fleets (ACF) regulation on September 9 from 9am - 4pm. The ACF will mandate that fleets purchase increased percentages of zero emission vehicles between 2024 and 2040.

Hyzon Motors’ Hydrogen Production Partner Raven will build two facilities in the Bay Area to convert 200 tons per day of greenwaste & food waste to over 10 tons per day of renewable hydrogen, all with a negative carbon footprint. Hyzon will have their fuel cell truck on display at the NorCal Fleet Academy & Expo.

A-Z Bus Sales Gen 5 Propane Engine
|
|
A-Z Bus Sales will have the latest Roush Clean Tech “Gen 5” Propane engine available in Blue Bird school buses. The “Gen 5” is built on the Ford 7.3L V8, and is certified to the 0.05 optional Low-NOx emission standard. When running on renewable propane, this bus has zero diesel toxic emissions, ultra-low smog-forming NOx emissions and very low GHG emissions.

Ford eF150 Lightning Production Targets

Ford eF150 “Lightning” production targets have been doubled from 40,000 per year to 80,000 per year in 2024. Ford received 120,000 reservations for the “Lightning” in the 12 hours following the unveiling in May. The first “Lightning” models will have two range options, 230 and 300 miles, with a $40K starting price and a $90K price fully loaded.

The GM Bolt Recall has expanded, and now includes all Bolts from 2019 through 2022. The expanded recall is due to potential risks of battery pack fires. GM will spend an additional $1.1B to replace battery packs.

Shell Hydrogen Station for Trains and Trucks

A Shell Hydrogen Station for Trains and Trucks has been funded by the CEC. A $4M grant will fund Shell’s hydrogen station at the Port of Sacramento, providing fuel to locomotives operated by the Sierra Northern Railroad in the Port and trucks located in and traveling through the Sacramento Region.

Hyundai Wireless Inductive Charging

Hyundai Introduces Wireless Inductive Charging in a production car, the Genesis GV60 Crossover SUV. The GV60 will have OEM wireless charging available in the 2022 model, but only in South Korea during a pilot introduction phase. US introduction dates have not been announced.

New Light-duty Electric Vehicle Sales rose from 1.4% of total sales to 1.7% in 2020, according to the DOE. New conventional hybrid sales also rose while plug-in hybrid sales decreased slightly.
